CJVB (AM)

CJVB is a radio station in Vancouver. It broadcasts on 1470 kHz at a power of 50,000 watts, using two different directional patterns for daytime and nighttime operation. Transmissions originate from its Richmond, BC transmitter site. Operation began as a 10,000 watt station at the same transmitter site, around 1970, with the power increase to 50 kW around 1981. The station was originally licenced to Jan Van Bruchem, whose initials give CJVB its call letters. (AM). CJVB was the first multicultural radio station in Canada outside of the Toronto market area. It was the first radio station in BC to broadcast in AM stereo. Today it airs mostly Cantonese and Mandarin programming, with some programming from other languages. The station is owned today by Fairchild Radio.
