CKUL-FM is a Halifax, Nova Scotia radio station broadcasting on 96.5 MHz. It has been on the air since August 30, 1990. Originally known as 96.5 Sun FM, the station was rebranded as Kool 96.5 FM in October 2004. CKUL broadcasts classic hits.
The station is currently operated as a joint venture between Newcap Broadcasting and CHUM Limited. In connection with Newcap's proposed conversion of CFDR from AM to FM, which would give that company the permitted maximum of two FM stations in the Halifax market, Newcap is requesting an exemption to retain its interest in CKUL. It is, however, prepared to sell this interest if required. [1]
