Claret School of Quezon City is an exclusive school for boys managed by the Claretian Missionaries that was founded in June 1967. It was named after its patron saint, St. Anthony Mary Claret, who founded the Congregation of Missionaries, Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1849 in the city of Vic, Spain. It is located at Mahinhin Street, U.P. Village, Diliman, Quezon City.
[edit] History
The history of Claret School of Quezon City dates back to 1967 when Rev. Fr. Jose Querexeta, CMF, the former superior and diocesan Bishop of Basilan Province, acquired a 29,101 square meter lot at U.P. Village, Diliman, Quezon City. Another Claretian missionary, Fr. Miguel Mialet, CMF, supervised the construction of the first permanent building which housed the Grade School. Fr. Santiago Gonzales, CMF became the first director and principal who supervised the institution for fourteen years from 1967 to 1981. He was succeeded by several other Claretian priests: Fr. Julian Mateos, CMF, Fr. Jesus Vasquez, CMF, Fr. Emilio Pablo, CMF, Fr. Luiz Fernandez Rey, CMF, and Fr. Domingo Moraleda, CMF. Claret School was then placed under the supervision of a lay director, Dr. Enrique Coralejo, who became the high school principal in 1981. From 1995-2001, it was Fr. Agapito Ferrero, CMF who served as the school director. In June 2001, the leadership was passed on to Fr. Felimon P. Libot, CMF, the first Filipino Claretian priest to be assigned as school director for Claret School of Quezon City. He was succeeded by Fr. Salvador "Buddy" G. Agualada, Jr., another Filipino Claretian Priest.
[edit] Organization
Claret School of Quezon City is composed of the Child Study Center, the Grade School department and the High School department. While the Grade School and High School units were established in 1967, it was only in June 2001 that the school started the operation of the Child Study Center. The Center accepts 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 year-old boys and girls for nursery and 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 year-old boys for Kinder. From Kinder, the curriculum ladder extends to the prep level which was originally integrated to the Grade School in 1967.
The Grade School department of Claret School of Quezon City was formally accredited by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) on March 15, 1978. Thereafter, it was granted reaccreditation in 1982, 1988, 1994, 2000 and the latest was until 2005, attesting to the high standard which the Grade School has achieved in the following areas: school and community, administration/ school staff instructional programs, student services, student activity programs, and facilities.
