Special, pre-taped, guest appearances were made by Leonard Nimoy, Sandra Bullock, Ben Stiller, Sarah Silverman, Jimmy Kimmel, and Clint Howard.
Many celebrities were shown prominently in the audience, such as Adrian Zmed from T.J. Hooker, David Carradine from Kung Fu, Brent Spiner from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Jeri Ryan from Star Trek: Voyager, Rene Auberjonois from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Boston Legal, Carrie Fisher from the original Star Wars trilogy, Ted Danson from Becker, Cedric Yarbrough from Reno 911! and stand-up comedian Brian Posehn.
In the background, women dressed as Orion slave girls can be clearly seen tending bar.
The tagline for this roast was: "The Shat hits the fan."
[edit] Trivia
- In true roast fashion the guest of honor took the podium and roasted his roasters. Shatner complained that their jokes were pathetic, he quipped, "I gave you people so much to work with!"
- Many jokes were in reference to Shatner's "inability to act." Lisa Lampanelli stated that, when she tried to Tivo one of Shatner's television shows, "my Tivo suggested that I punch myself in the c***."
- Shatner made fun of the show that made him a household name by saying, "Star Trek really broke stereotypes. Not only did we take a chance and allow an Asian gentleman to drive, we had a black woman sitting at a large screen who didn't yell things at it."
- There was a kiss exchanged between George Takei and Jeffrey Ross during a segment of the roast. Andy Dick licked the faces of Farrah Fawcett, Carrie Fisher and Patton Oswalt before groping, licking and biting the hand of reporter Mandy Stadtmiller backstage. Dick also tried to lick Nichelle Nichols who actively refused.
- Shatner was sitting in a replica of the original Star Trek captain's chair (Jason Alexander claimed it was the original).
- Takei's homosexuality was consistently made fun of during the show, and Takei made fun of it as well when it was his turn to roast. When it was Shatner's turn, he talked to Takei about "ripping him a new one," and then said that he was sure Takei would know what to do with it.
