[edit] Compton high's academic achievement
Man, things are pretty bad down here!
"This school's 2004 API rank compared to all schools is 1 out of 10. (10 is the best.) Last year its rank was 1 out of 10. This rank, which is based on the school's API, ranges from 1 to 10. A rank of 10, for example, means that the school's API fell into the top 10% of all schools in the state with a comparable grade range. "
API's
African Amer. - 452 Hispanic - 523
Completing UC/CSU requirements - 11% Percent scoring over 1000 on the SAT - 1%

[edit] Demographics
I can't find a website for Compton High, but Dominguez High, also in Compton, is 66% Latino/Hispanic. [2] This commerical site claims that CHS is 58% Latino. [3] On that basis the edit that says CHS is 2/3 Latino seems reasonable. -Willmcw 23:11, July 21, 2005 (UTC)
- The difference between those figures is quite nominal. I would be more comfortable if official statistics were reported on this. Bahn Mi 18:27, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, that'd be the best. I don't know why CHS doesn't have its own website, like DHS does. -Willmcw 20:34, August 12, 2005 (UTC)
- According to the 2000 United States Census, African Americans make up 40.31% (37690) of the population in Compton, Whites 16.71% (15625), and Mexicans 48.89% (43839). (source). Last week I visited Compton as well as Compton High School and during my travels I only passed by two people of Hispanic descent; one was the postman and the other was an immigrant selling oranges as I entered the city; everyone else was black. I did not visit the neighborhood surrounding Dominguez High School, but their demographics do seem probable in light of the census information. Agreed, it would be nice if CHS published similar information. In other news, NPR recently did a piece regarding the tragic increase of homicides within the city, located here. - Naturally, the formatting here looks much better in edit mode. ^_^ This is for CHS, correct? Can you please provide a link to the source? Bahn Mi 05:54, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Yes, those are bullet holes
Few have inquired via email if the holes in the Compton High School photograph (Image:Compton_High_School_billboard.jpg) are bullet holes. The answer is yes, they did appear to be, but I am not a ballistics expert by any means. Bahn Mi 04:40, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
