Cumberland is a village in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. The village was named after Cumberland in Great Britain. The name was appropriate, as both were heavy coal producers. The site was originally incorporated as Union, because it was first constructed for the Union Coal Company. There are many old company houses and structures still intact in Cumberland, and at one point it boasted the second largest Chinatown on the west coast of North America.
