[edit] History

Dallas Crane started in 1996 with Dave Larkin and Pete Satchell on guitars and vocals, Shan Vanderwert on drums and Chris Brodie on bass. The band was originally known as Tempered Kin but quickly switched to Dallas Crane. After two years playing gigs around Melbourne, Dallas Crane had enough money to record a self-funded album, Lent. While the album received little attention, the band received a good response to its live performances.

The band started winning support slots around the country for the likes of You Am I and The Posies. The band also received airplay on national radio broadcaster Triple J's "Live at the Wireless" program with a track appearing on a CD of highlights of the band. Triple J DJ Richard Kingsmill was an early fan of the band - Kingsmill is now head of programming on the radio network.

Dallas Crane recorded its second album Twenty Four Seven in 2000. This album received a positive response from Australian rock critics with Beat Magazine naming it as album of the week and In-Press naming it as rock record of the week. Dallas Crane also won the major award at the Australian Live Music Awards, leading the band to represent Australia at the International Live Music Awards in London in 2002. Chris Brodie left the band after the release of Twenty Four Seven, replaced by Pat Bourke in Jan 2001.

Dallas Crane continued to win support slots to a number of artists including Ryan Adams, The Black Keys, Rocket Science, and You Am I. During their shows with You Am I, lead singer Tim Rogers said "Dallas Crane are the best band in the country" and even made reference to the band in the You Am I song "Who Put The Devil In You?". Rogers was compiling the soundtrack for the Australian film Dirty Deeds released in 2002 and asked Dallas Crane to cover "Wild About You" originally performed by Australian punk band The Saints.

[edit] 2003

In 2003, the band embarked on the "Dan Does Dallas Tour" with fellow Australian bands Dan Brodie and the Broken Arrows and Dan Kelly and the Alpha Males. The band then started its own tour supporting singles "No Through Road" and "Ladybird", which both received airplay on Triple J. The band further built its live reputations through performances at the Homebake and Big Day Out festivals.

[edit] 2004

In January 2004, the band signed a recording and publishing deal with Albert Productions, the home of AC/DC. The band recorded an album with Wayne Connolly, who has also produced You Am I and Underground Lovers. The self-titled album was released mid-July 2004 and the first single, "Dirty Hearts", made the ARIA top 50 on release in 2004. The album was well-received and seen as their best yet. Nominated for three ARIA awards, the album has already been called an Australian Classic.

Recently, Pat performed at the 2004 ARIA awards, and Waveaid, as part of the supergroup The Wrights, featuring members of other Australian rock bands.

[edit] 2006

In early 2006, the band released the single "Lovers and Sinners", making it freely available via their website.

The band's fourth album, Factory Girls, recorded with producers Jonathan Burnside and Wayne Connolly, was released in Australia on September 16, 2006. The first single from the album, "Curiosity", was released on August 26, 2006, following a pre-release on the Australian iTunes Music Store.

The album received early positive reviews, with the Australian Rolling Stone magazine awarding it 4/5.

In August 2006 the band commenced a tour down the east coast of Australia to coincide with the album launch and the performance at Brisbane's "The Zoo" has received positive reviews in local independent media and reaffirmed the band's popularity as a renowned live act. The band ran a more comprehensive tour during September, and are set to tour the UK for the first time at the end of the year.

Dallas Crane is currently touring the Coast of Australia on their On The Beach Tour with fellow Australian Rock Bands Airbourne and The Vandas.
