Dean Bouzanis (born October 2, 1990, in Sydney, Australia) is an Australian football (soccer) goalkeeper. He is currently signed to Liverpool but is on loan to Sydney FC.
Bouzanis' family is of Greek origin and he attends De La Salle College in Cronulla. His talents were first seen at his local soccer club, Carss Park, whilst playing in the under 9's[citation needed]. At this time he played as a midfielder rather than a goalkeeper[citation needed]. Here he also played alongside current Sydney FC teammate and close friend Nikolas Tsattalios. Bouzanis then went on to play in the State League for St George Saints at 14 before joining the NSW Institute of Sport. He was called up for the Joeys, Australia's under 17s team, at 15.
Bouzanis spent three weeks with Liverpool F.C. in January 2007 with the first team squad. After this stint Bouzanis was offered a three year deal. [1] He is unable to play for Liverpool's reserves until he is 17 years and 3 months due to his Australian nationality, so as a result was loaned to Sydney FC, where he will be understudy until January 2008 to Clint Bolton. Liverpool's manager Rafael Benitez and goalkeeping coach have rated him as the best goalkeeper in the world under the age of 18 [2]
