DeLand High School is a public high school in DeLand, Florida (Volusia County) with enrollment of 3,382 students, a student/teacher ratio of 16.5, and a graduation rate above 90%[citation needed]. The school opened in 1922.

[edit] Controversy
In May 2002, 12 students super-glued stolen beehives within the school and also glued a large number of classroom and building doors shut. The school prank resulted in the release of a swarm of 80,000 bees. The students were suspended and later sentenced to perform community service. This prank was also the first to air on MTV's show "High School Stories: Scandals, Pranks & Controversies" receiving an hour long special.[1]

DeLand High School is an International Baccalaureate world school since the 1970's. The program is a rigorous academic program that prepares its students for college with a critical workload and deep thinking.

DeLand High School also hosts the engineering program where students take engineering classes to train them in the engineering field

Deland High School is constructing a brand new facilty for the construction academy that is set to open for the 2008 school year. Here students can learn the concepts of construction so they can go into the work field.

In 2005 the bulldogs won a state championship in weightlifting for the 9th time.

In 1951 the Bulldogs attended the state championship.The Bulldogs became state champions in 1961. In 2006 the team made it into the state's final four championship.

The girls bowling team won the State Championship in 2005 and have not been defeated since.
[edit] Varsity Football
The 2006 season saw the Bulldogs as district champions. For the last 14 years has also won the Battle Of The Bones against district rival Deltona High School. In 2006 won the battle 56-0

In the 2006-2007 the freshman bulldogs went undefeated in their entire district. 8-0
[edit] Varsity Basketball
Have a good track record and in the 2006-2007 school year beat many intimidating opponents such as Deltona, Mainland, Lake Mary, West Orange,and University.Head coach is coach Zeoli

In 2007 truimphed over Spruce Creek's honored academic team and grabbed the name district champions. They regularly compete in regional competitions.

DeLand's band has gained recognition over the last 4 years visiting the Georgia Peach Bowl and the Florida Bandmasters Association State Concert Festival three times and twice receiving the highest possible ratings.

- Terence Trent D'Arby, singer/songwriter, now known as Sananda Maitreya. (Class of 1979)
- Bridget Gordon, member of the 1988 US Olympic gold medal Women's basketball team. (class of 1985) [2]
- Sara McLarty, professional triathlete, 15-time NCAA American swimming at the University of Florida (class of 2000). [3]
- Tra Thomas, NFL offensive lineman
- Luke Scott, Houston Astros outfielder
- Lisa Davies, former fashion plate, she now models for campaigns such as Emporio Armani. [4]

Deland high school is one of two schools in Volusia County that offers Mu Alpha Theta math honors society. Members regularly participate in the regional competitions.
