[edit] History
The airport was founded in 1925, and was completely rebuilt in 1941 by Panair do Brasil ("necessities of war", declared the American and the Brazilian governments). Its old name was Santo Amaro do Ipitanga.
In 1955, the airport changed its name to Dois de Julho, and, in 1998, to the present name, although Salvador's inhabitants mostly continue to refer to the airport by the older name Dois de Julho.
In 2000, the airport went under a major renovation which made the airport one of the most modern airports in Brazil.
