Dick Taylor (born Richard Clifford Taylor, 28 January 1943, in Dartford, Kent, England) was an early bass player for Rolling Stones. He left to become an art student at Sidcup Art College and while there formed The Pretty Things in September 1963. Taylor now lives on the Isle of Wight, England.
[edit] Career
In 1962, while Taylor was at Sidcup Art College, Rolling Stones was formed when Brian Jones joined Taylor, Mick Jagger (born Michael Philip Jagger, 26 July 1943, in Dartford) and Keith Richards (born 18 December 1943 in Dartford) three-piece, Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys. Taylor was pushed into bassist position to accommodate Jones (Before Brian Jones' arrival, Taylor played guitar in the band).
By the autumn of 1962, Taylor had left to return to art college; Bill Wyman (born William George Perks, 24 October 1936, in Ladywell, Lewisham, South London) succeeded him as The Rolling Stones' bassist in December 1962.
Later in 1963, Taylor formed The Pretty Things with Phil May (born Phillip Arthur Dennis Kattner, 9 November 1944, in Dartford) and once again played his preferred guitar position. The core members of The Pretty Things remain in the band to this day, and are reportedly working on a new album for 2006 release.
