Digivice
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Digivice is a device from the fictional anime/manga Digimon series. They are based on the first Digimon product, the Digimon virtual pet. In the anime seasons 1-5, as well as the manga V-Tamer, Chronicle, D-Cyber (Chinese manga), and Digimon Next, the Digivice is used by human characters to make their Digimon partners Digivolve, and in some cases, to transform themselves into Digimon. In some series, the protagonists must face the threat of human enemies also possessing Digivices and Digimon partners too. Each story featured one or two of the many types of Digivice presented so far.

[edit] Digivices used in the Anime
[edit] Original Digivice
- Used in Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02.
- Also used by the International DigiDestined of Digimon Adventure 02 as well.
- Can be used to track another DigiDestined's Digivice.
- Could only be used to digivolve the Digimon as far as the Champion level (later proven to be able to help a Digimon to digivolve up to mega if the circumstances are right in the third Digimon movie.)
- An additional ability is that the Crests are used in conjunction with the Digivice to achieve the Ultimate Level. Turns into the following different colors when used;
- In Digimon Adventure 02, is revealed that Ken received an original Digivice through his brother Sam's computer. For a time he mistakenly thought it belonged to Sam. He also possessed the Crest of Kindness, but he never used it for digivolution.
- Tai and Matt's crests were later upgraded where they gained the ability to Warp Digivolve Agumon and Gabumon to their Mega Level forms as well.
- The ability for the eight DigiDestined's Digimon to Digivolve to their Ultimate and Mega forms were later lost after the eight DigiDestined gave up the power of their crests. Later Azulongmon's power allowed for them to be able to Digivolve to Ultimate again temporarily. Azulongmon later granted Agumon the power to Warp Digivolve to Mega temporarily.
- Other additional abilities include:
- Purifying Digimon possessed by the Black Gears, or some improving their behavior, after contacting the light of a Digivice.
- In conjunction with each other DigiDestined Digivices it can restrain enemies by using light.
- Also in conjunction with the other Digivices, can create a cube of light that can contain dimension destroying explosions.
- Armor/Golden Armor Digivolution (proven by Wallace/Willis in the third movie, which is not always considered canon).
- Allows DNA/Warp DNA Digivolution (Proven by Tai and Matt on the second and fourth movie).
- Has a built-in clock
[edit] D-3 Digivice
The D-3s were orginal created to match the power of Ken's Dark D-3 which was created when he dipped his Digivice into the Dark Ocean.
- Digivice used in Digimon Adventure 02 with the following colors;
- D-3 stands for "Digital, Detect, and Discover", possessing all the basic functions of the normal Digivices.
- Davis, Yolei, and Cody received theirs when Tai touched the Digi-Egg of Courage in the Digital World.
- Kari and T.K had their original Digivices upgraded to D-3 when they found their Digi-Eggs. The same occurred with Ken when he held his original Digivice into the Dark Ocean.
- Allowed for Armor Digivolution (Digimental Evolution) the ancient form of Digivolution by infusing the Digivice with the ancient Digi-Egg (Digimental) which is stored in the DigiDestined's communicator device the D-Terminal. This Digivolution is used by everyone in the anime except for Ken. (However Ken finally used this Digivolution in the CD Drama "Michi E No Armor Shinka" when Ken used it to stop Davis from hurting Veemon)
- Also allowed for DNA Digivolution (Jogress Evolution).
- Only way to open the gate to the Digital World in Digimon Adventure 02 (Normal Digivice alone won't work but will still allow entrance to the Digital World if someone with a D-3 opens the gate for them).
- The dark spore inside Ken gave his D-3 the ability to stop Digimon from regular Digivolving. After the spore de-activated this function was lost.
- Toy versions of the D-3s were divided in five versions: Version 1(Veemon/Wormmon), Version 2(Hawkmon/Gatomon), and Version 3(Armadillomon/Patamon). While the other characters' D-3s were used, Kari and TK's were replaced with white/blue and black/blue respectively. There is also a "Paildramon version" and final "clear" version of Davis D-3.
[edit] D-Power (D-Arc in Japan)
- Digivice used in Digimon Tamers with the following colors;
- D-Arc is an anagram of "card"
- Can be used with a Digimon playing card for Digi-Modify (Card Slash).
- Originally the primary Tamer's Digimon needed to be exposed to Calumon's power in order for the D-Arc to Digivolve them to the Champion Level. Starting in Episode 14, a Digivolution Card aided this function.
- Has a built-in Digimon Analyzer. This function is activated when the Tamer's Digimon partner looks directly at the foe. Seen at the 1st episode, when Rika (Ruki) and Renamon faced Goblimon.
- It has a compass function.
- Can be used with a Blue Card by the Primary Tamers for Matrix Digivolution.
- Note - In the American version, Matrix Evolution is used for Digimon to Digivolve from Adult (Champion) to Perfect (Ultimate). Originally, this is also the "Biomerge" process name.
- Can be used by Takato, Henry, Rika, and Ryo to Biomerge Digivolve (Matrix Evolve).
- Takato and Rika received their D-Arc Digivice's by slashing a Blue Card through a card-reader.
- Henry received his by slashing a blue card through an online Digimon gaming console.
- The other Tamer's D-Arc Digivice's appeared before them in a shroud of light.
- Takato's original red D-Arc was destroyed as a result of Guilmon becoming Megidramon, and he received a new white/gold D-Arc in its place which had digi-code written on it.
- Ryo's digivice can generate an energy whip.
- Chiaki Konaka states in his character notes (for Janyu Lee) that the D-Power was inspired by the Xerox Dynabook, as a portable computer interface for children.
[edit] D-Tector (D-Scanner in Japan)
- Digivice used in Digimon Frontier with the following colors;
- Main purpose was for Spirit Evolution (Which in the English Dub falls into the subcategory of Beast Spirit Evolution when a Beast Spirit is used).
- Can also be used to do a Fractal Code (Digi-Code) Scan.
- Created by Ophanimon by changing the DigiDestined Cell Phones into D-Tectors (except Koichi, whose D-Tector came out of Koji's).
- Takuya and Koji's were first enhanced by Seraphimon's power to be able to use Fusion Evolution (Double Spirit Evolution) and then were later upgraded by Ophanimon to be able to use Unified Spirit Evolution (Hyper Spirit Evolution).
- Can be used to talk to each other as seen when Zoe tried to talk to Takuya who was still inside Sakkakumon.
- Koji's, Tommy's (Tomoki), and Takuya's D-Tector had a compass function that allowed Koji to find his Spirit, guided Tommy and the gang to Seraphimon's castle, and guided Takuya and his friends the fractal code key in Seraphimon's castle later in the series.
[edit] Digivice iC
- Digivice used in Digimon Savers with the following colors;
- It allows Digimon to digivolve via "Digisoul Charge" to Champion/Adult stage and/or "Digisoul Full Charge" to Ultimate/Perfect stage. The lead characters are able to generate something known as a "Digisoul" (emerges from the human partner's hand for the evolution from Rookie to Champion, and from the heart which engulfs the body for the evolution from Champion to Ultimate) which, when received by a Digimon, allows them to digivolve. (Almost similar to the "Spirit Evolution" in Frontier, with the exception of the human evolving into a Digimon)
- It is also capable of absorbing a Digimon from a certain device on the rear end. In the first two Episodes of Savers Lalamon spends most of her time in it, and fits perfectly, while Agumon seems a bit squeezed in.
- The buttons on its face are the same as the DATS (Digital Accident Tactics Squad) logo. Is about 3 1/2" tall, about 1 1/2" wide, and about 1/2" thick.
- In episode 28, Masaru, Tohma, and Yoshino finally succeed in summoning the true power of the Digisoul, but the Digivice iCs were not able to handle the raw power and were broken almost in an instant. In episode 37 however, the same did not occur with Ikuto, whom was apparently capable of controlling his digisoul and digivolved Falcomon via "Digisoul Charge! Overdrive!" to his ultimate/mega form, Ravemon. In episode 41, Satsuma also showed he could bring Kudamon to its ultimate/mega form, Sleipmon only with his iC.
[edit] Digivice Burst
- Digivice used in Digimon Savers [1]
- An upgraded version of the Digivice iC with the following colors;
- Masaru: Black/Orange
- Tohma: Black/Blue
- Yoshino: White/Pink
- Ikuto: Navy Blue/Purple
- Suguru: Black/Yellow
- Allows Digimon to digivolve via "Digisoul Charge! Overdrive!" to the Ultimate/Mega level.
- Has all the same functions as the iC, plus the ability to use "Charge! Digisoul Burst!" to activate "Burst Mode"
- A new addition, to the side of the Digivice Burst, called a "Signal Port", allows the use of a new feature called "Air Signal", which has three functions: Aura, Barrier and Burst Evolution (Activates the Burst Mode)
- In episode 29, Masaru, Tohma, and Yoshino managed to repair their broken Digivice iCs and turn them into Bursts, thanks to BanchouLeomon's training. Ikuto's iC evolved to Burst in Episode 43 when he and Yoshino finally managed to bring their partners to Burst Mode.
- Suguru Daimon was the first one to obtain the Digivice Burst after meeting with BantyoLeomon, before the start of the series.
