The 2005/06 season of the Divizia A began in August 2005 and ended in June 2006. Steaua Bucureşti became champions on 7 June 2006.

These teams were promoted from the Divizia B at the start of the season:
- FC Ceahlăul Piatra Neamţ (champions of B/1)
- Universitatea Craiova (champions of B/2)
- UTA Arad (bought the presence in Liga I from Liberty Salonta, (champions of B/3)
- Unirea Urziceni (win the presence in Liga I, after a play-off, with FC Bihor Oradea and Forex Braşov, (runners-up of B/2)
- Pandurii Târgu-Jiu (replace Sportul Studenţesc after they relegated)

These teams were relegated to the Divizia B at the end of the season:
- Sportul Studenţesc (relegated by FRF, because of money problem)
- FCM Bacău (16th place of Divizia A)
