[edit] Sorting films
Hey Doc, glad to see you made a start with your user page! Just wanted to let you know that in sorting films, we ignore all articles in the beginning of a title (English and foreign). Have a sunny day! (Canada where? -if I may) Hoverfish Talk 20:31, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- Naturally, I was in brain-neutral when I added that. I'm an Ontarian. Doctor Sunshine talk 20:08, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] takashi miike page
thanks for helping sort this table out, it looks a ton better. AlexOvShaolin 01:26, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. I'll see if I can't track down some more information at some point. Of course it'd be much easier if the guy would take a break now and again. But that's our Miike. Doctor Sunshine talk 01:01, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Tirez sur le pianiste
Hey. I am aware of WP:ENGVAR, but after the two requested moves and a lengthy debate, I think it is better to wait for more editors to join the discussion, and let them give their view on the naming issue. Thanks, Prolog 22:55, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wikiproject Actors and Filmmakers
Hey see my proposals at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Actor and Filmmakers and the main WP Film and Biography talk page. Know anybody who is interested? Actors and all film people articles need a body on wikipedia to upkeep them asthey need more focus -it would be a part of Biogrpahy and Film. If you are interested or know somebody who would be, please let them know and whether you think it is a good progession for the project or not. Please leave your views at the council or biogrpahy main talk page. THanks ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:48, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dumbland
I don't know if Dumbland is really appropriate for the Film Wikiproject seeing as it was made for the Internet (and presented as episodes so technically it was an Internet TV series). Do you know if there's perhaps a related project for webfilms/webseries? 23skidoo 02:35, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- Good point. I was thinking of them as short films but they are more webisodes. I've added an Internet wikiproject. The categories may still need to be fixed. Doctor Sunshine talk 02:58, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- That's a better wikiproject - thanks for making the change. We'll have to see what categories are applicable. 23skidoo 03:43, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Model page for WikiProject Film Bio started
I have started a page model for the new project User:Ernst Stavro Blofeld/Film biography page model. Please note that it is still in its infancy stage and the templates have not been fully completed. THis is how I'd like the page to look but with an adaption of the task side plate further to incorprate film and biography goals on wikipedia. What do you think as a start? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 16:19, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- Great work there. For just a start it's already pretty huge. Well done. I might suggest a Production Designer section, that's a fairly key position. Otherwise, it looks like you're on the right track. Keep at it. Doctor Sunshine talk 10:20, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Criterion Collection category
Thank you very much for the timely heads-up. InnocuousPseudonym 21:18, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. I was just passing through and noticed. I don't mind them but the Wikipedia community seems to think it sets a bad precedence. Doctor Sunshine talk 02:43, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] A question of inclusion
Hi, I am planning to formulate this for a more general discussion, but it's best to hear some opinions first. We are compiling film lists by country, and some editors including Blofeld copy whole dumps from imdb and try to enter them all in the lists, which become like telephone catalogues in this way. Notability-wise it could be that every film that has ever been screened is acceptable. For having useful lists, however, this is very questionable IMO. Should we make lists for "most notable films" only, or should we get listed every last film ever screened? Hoverfish Talk 23:54, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- I tend to agree with you. I think it's a big enough job just getting every film with a wikipedia article on the appropriate lists. Really, who knows how many IMDb entries are erroneous, or duplicates or fakes. IMDb is fine to get started but I think we should only be listing films that can be confirmed by multiple reliable sources (which excludes the IMDb). One thing I was wondering, maybe it's possible to automate the process at least partially, maybe a bot-savvy individual could set something up to rip information from the infoboxes of articles in various film categories. I'm sure it would still need manual monitoring but it should speed things up, if it is possible. Doctor Sunshine talk 00:29, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
From the little I've read about bots I doubt such "milking of data" is a programmable bot option, but I may be wrong. I have done the List of French films by hand from scratch and it took me only 3-4 days. As you see I have included all the films with articles in wikipedia only (but am open for missing important films), and at one point I had to ask Blofeld to stop entering massive amounts of films without an article (mostly shorts of the early period). He did so out of kindness, but just "for now". I am uneasy as long as this issue is not cleared out by consensus. The Lists of films without article are there for all the background work. To my cautioning about copying IMDb dumps there, it was promissed that these work-lists would first be filtered for notability and only important films would hit the main namespace lists. I never learned how or if the filtering happened. I think mostly not. Please take a look at what is about to happen in the List of East German films. Also Aussiepete did something similar in the List of Australian films, but with a more crtical touch and now we still have to do some filtering to get out (or merge in single entries) some unimportant films. Surely it's mostly positive contributions, but this point remains open. Hoverfish Talk 08:44, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Actually they don't. The only example of this is the List of East German films where somebody had compiled a scruffy list from imdb that I tried to quickly cleanup by putting them into the formal tables!!! I certainly don't want every unotable film in the lists!!! I would like the see most feature films in the lists but not four minute shorts, or one of films, or unotable tv films etc. The major film producers have prodcued a massive number of films though! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" "S.P.E.C.T.R.E" 14:56, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
I have to apologize for this. I saw Blofeld's name in the edit history and didn't check for details. Sorry. Hoverfish Talk 18:31, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Film genre/Cinematic genre
Hi Doctor Sunshine, Please help me to move the page properly. The academic term is 'film genre". Also the category is "category:film genre." In addition the common usage term is "film genre." Google has 574,000 hits for "film genre" and 27,000 hits for "cinematic genre." I have a degree from U.S.C. film school and I promise this is the right term. So please help me. I tried to do a move, and I could not accomplish it. Hope you will help. Cott12 Talk 00:45, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Branded to Kill
Great job on the expansion :) --gren グレン 15:47, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I missed your message. Thanks, I'd been meaning to give it a go for a while and when Andrzejbanas expanded the plot I thought I'd finally get to it while it would still qualify as a Did You Know item. There's only a few more pieces of information I can add and some copy editing and I'll see if it can't make GA status. Love that film. Doctor Sunshine talk 04:03, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
