Bede Evelyn Dominick Elwes (credited as Dominick Elwes, Dominic Elwes), (17 August 1931 - 1975) was a British portrait painter.
Dominic Elwes is the son of well-known British portrait painter Simon Elwes (from the recusant Cary-Elwes family) and Gloria Rodd.
He is the father of famed artist Damian Elwes, film producer Cassian Elwes, and actor Cary Elwes.
At age 26, Dominic married 19-year-old Tessa Kennedy in Cuba, escaping an English court order against their marriage. After returning to London, he served 14 days in jail for contempt of court.[1] His elopement with Tessa Kennedy in 1958 was a scandale célèbre, as was his suicide in 1975.
He was a friend of Lord Lucan and was portrayed by Anthony Stewart Head in the 1994 British television movie The Trial of Lord Lucan.
