Dowling Catholic High School is a Catholic secondary school in West Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. In 1972, it was created by the merger of St Joseph Academy for girls (established in 1887) and Dowling High School for boys (established in 1918). Approximately 1,200 students currently attend Dowling Catholic High School.

Dowling Catholic is coached by Mr. Tom Wilson & plays their home football games at 10,000 seat Valley Stadium but on September 8, 2006 competed at Drake Stadium against Cedar Rapids Jefferson in a game where Ryan Mcmahon of the Maroons kicked a school record 53 yard field goal. Dowling Catholic has a storied football tradition. The Maroons are the all-time winningest team in Iowa high school football history in terms of winning percentage (79.8%). Dowling Catholic also owns more victories than any other team in 4-A(the highest classification) with an alltime 301-86 win-loss record including a 37-27 W-L record in the playoffs. Their 29 playoff appearances is #2 alltime in any classification). Many great players have taken the field for the Maroons including NCAA Consensus 1st team All American and College Football Hall of Fame member offensive lineman Jerry Groom (class of 1950), all time leading school passer Rich Lowery (1991), All-American Quarterback Matt Macri (2100 pass yards and nearly 500 rushing in 2000 (13 gms) & State Champion), all time leading school reciever Albert Smith(1006 yards and 15 TD in 1990), John Vacco (65 receptions in 1988 (11 gms)), Running backs Ashland Grady (nearly 400 rush yards in one game with 4 TD, finished second in 4A in rushing in 2002 to WDM Valley RB Jason Scales), Warren Batiste (longest run in Dowling history; 98 yds), Jimmy Swift (all-time school leader in interceptions including 7 in 2005) and other greats. Dowling Catholic won 47 consecutive games from 1966 to a 1971 tie. Dowling won 64 consecutive Metro conference games, a streak lasting from 1967 to 1977.

Dowling has a particularly strong history in wrestling. Some items of note:
- Coach Bob Darrah (340-17-2) has the state top percentage in dual meets (of those with more than 300 meets) with a .949 average.
- Dowling holds the record for most dual meet wins in a row with 138 won between Jan. 25, 1986-Jan. 4, 1992.
- Wrestler Jeff Theiler is one of the states winningest individuals with a 178-7-1 record.

- Basketball player Bobby Hansen led Dowling to a State Championship in 1979, was a star player for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, and played in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls.

In 2003 Dowling was awarded the No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School Award by the United States Department of Education.

Dowling Catholic is a nationally recognized Speech and Debate power on the high school level. In 2006, Dowling Qualified 15 people to the National Tournament and placed first in multiple events.
