Ecorse Road
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ecorse Road is a major thoroughfare in the Metro Detroit area. This stretch of road extends from Ypsilanti, MI to M-39 in Allen Park, MI ironically never getting to the city of Ecorse. This segment of highway used to be part of M-17.
[edit] Expressway portion
The portion between U.S. Highway 12 and Belleville Rd. is an expressway. This portion has at-grade intersections. It skirts the northern border of the Willow Run Airport. It was a part of the Willow Run Expressway developed to service the Willow Run plant during World War II.
Service drives run on both sides of the expressway portion of Ecorse Road. The south service drive runs from Beck Road to Belleville Road; the north service drive runs from Belleville Road to just east of US-12. Both service drives are two-way. Since there has been virtually no land development in this area, the drives have fallen into disrepair, particularly the northern service drive between Denton Road and its western terminus.
