EDGES with Mal Fletcher
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
EDGES with Mal Fletcher is a magazine-documentary TV series looking at social issues and future research from a conservative or evangelical Christian worldview perspective [1]. Presented by broadcaster and author Mal Fletcher, each 30 minute film covers such issues as terrorism, euthanasia, pornography, genetics, robotics and alternative fuels. The producers are aiming to share Christian thinking and values with an audience that would not watch 'church on TV' programmes [2].
The programme has been described by broadcasters as substantial, colorful and fast-paced[3] and transcripts from the show are often quoted or reproduced in (mostly Christian) magazines and internet magazines[4].
The views expressed obviously do not encompass the full range of possible Christian thought on issues. They tend to represent a conservative evangelical perspective.
In 2005, the EDGES programme 'Crime and Punishment' was awarded second prize, News and Documentary, in the People's Choice Awards at the U.S. National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) convention [5].
EDGES is seen on many satellite, cable and terrestrial TV platforms around the world[6], and as video-on-demand via the internet[7]. EDGES can be seen on stations including Inspiration Network International, Revelation TV and God TV and has aired on the Nine Network and Seven Network in Australia and South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC1) in South Africa.
More than 120 thirty minute films have been made since the programme began in 1996. Originally filmed exclusively in Copenhagen, Denmark, production is now based in London, with production teams working in the UK, Denmark, Spain and Australia[8].
EDGES is a production of Next Wave International, based in London.
