[edit] Plot
Newly elected to Congress, Evan (Steve Carell) leaves Buffalo behind and shepherds his family to suburban northern Virginia. Once there, his life gets turned upside-down when God (Morgan Freeman) appears and mysteriously commands him to build an ark because of a flood coming upon the earth. But his befuddled family just can't decide whether Evan is having an extraordinary mid-life crisis or is truly onto something of Biblical proportions.
[edit] Production
Scenes for the film were filmed in various locations in Virginia, including areas around Crozet, Waynesboro, Richmond, and Staunton.[1] The scenes involving the ark were shot in a Crozet subdivision, Old Trail. The ark was designed to meet the actual measurements of the Bible measuring 450 feet long, 80 feet wide and 51 feet high.[2] While on the set for the film, Steve Carell hurt his ankle on May 13, 2006, while stepping out of a Hummer in downtown Richmond.[3]
[edit] Cast
Jim Carrey and Jennifer Aniston both declined to reprise their roles from Bruce Almighty. Though he did do a sequel to Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Carrey is "not a big fan of doing the same character twice."[2]

[edit] Trivia
- Carell shot the film during the week, and would proceed to shoot the third season of The Office during weekends.
- The Depression Lake in Universal Studios was used for this movie.
- A new trailer premiered in NBC during a marathon of The Office.
[edit] Scriptural conflict
The film conflicts with the aftermath of the Great Flood in the Bible where God makes a covenant with man never to destroy the world with a flood again. The following verses state the covenant:
"Angered by the wickedness of mankind, God selects Noah,[4] "a righteous man, blameless in his generation,"[5] and commands him to build an Ark, and to take on it his family and representatives of the animals.[6] God destroys the world with a Flood,[7] and enters into a covenant with Noah and his descendants, the entire human race, promising never again to destroy mankind in this way."[8]
[edit] Budget
- At an initial budget of approximately $140 million, Evan Almighty is slated to be the most expensive comedy movie ever made. Added costs such as set construction, visual effects, and problems with filming multiple animals in a controlled location could bring the budget up to $160-175 million. Once marketing for the film is also included, the film's entire budget is estimated to be $250 million.[1]
- Steve Carell will earn a reported $5 million for his role in the film.[2]
