Live Era: '87-'93 is a double live album released by American hard rock band Guns N' Roses.
It was released in 1999 after all of the members of the band who played on the album (except lead singer Axl Rose and keyboardist Dizzy Reed) had either left or been fired.
The album mainly received a lukewarm response from fans and also with critics with many believing that the album portrayed a bloated and untrue representation of the band live. Many fans believe that studio overdubbing (vocals in particular) was used throughout the album, although to this day this has never been verified by anyone connected with the band.

[edit] Album
Strangely, the dates and locations of the tracks are not revealed in the liner notes and are only referred to simply as being "Recorded across the universe between 1987 and 1993". However, the majority of the tracks on the two CDs were believed to be sourced from the extensive Use Your Illusion Tour of 1991-1993.
One of the most interesting aspects of the album is the fact that drummer Matt Sorum who was a member of the band from 1990-1997 and drums on the majority of the album, is listed as an "additional musician" in the liner notes and not as an actual member of the band. This is partly due to Sorum being promtly fired after an argument with Rose before the album was released. Preceding drummer Steven Adler, however, is listed among the band, however, though Sorum plays on the majority of the tracks. The liner notes additionally list keyboardist Dizzy Reed as a band member, though Adler and Reed were never in the band at the same time.
An interesting fact is two of their popular live songs "Live and Let Die" and "Civil War" which were both played heavily during the Use Your Illusion Tour were omitted from this release.
The Japanese and vinyl versions of the album contain a rare performance of "Coma", Guns N' Roses' longest song to date. The reason for not including "Coma" on the other editions of the album are unknown.
