Game director

A game director is a person who is in charge of significant creative aspects of a video game. This title is most commonly found in games made in Japan.

- Hideo Kojima is well-known for directing the Metal Gear series.
- Shigeru Miyamoto is often credited as the "creator" of the Nintendo game characters Mario, Donkey Kong, and a few others. He directed Super Mario Brothers for the Nintendo Entertainment System.
- Hironobu Sakaguchi is well-known for directing the Final Fantasy series (I-III) for the Nintendo Entertainment System and 2 of the installments (IV and V) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
- Tetsuya Nomura directed many of Square Enix's recent works, among them the Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy series.
