[edit] Biography
[edit] Career
Martling resigned from the Stern Show in March 2001, over a financial disagreement with WXRK, the radio station for which he and Stern worked. Martling has admitted that the amount of money under dispute was extremely small, but he left the show anyway, refusing to sign a deal.
Martling's chair on the Howard Stern Show was later filled by former MADtv cast member Artie Lange, however Lange did not take over Martling's job as head writer. That position was filled instead by Benjy Bronk. Martling has since returned to the show to roast producer Gary Dell'Abate. On March 13, 2007, Martling made an appearance on the Howard Stern Show where he announced he had reached an agreement to do his show, 'Jackie's Joke Hunt', on Sirius.
On September 25, 2006, Howard Stern announced that Martling would be returning to radio by joining the Howard 100/101 Sirius Radio channels. Stern elaborated further on the September 26, 2006 broadcast, saying that Martling's new show on Howard 101 would be called "Jackie's Joke Hunt". The show premiered on October 3, 2006 at 7pm EST, airing every Tuesday (and re-airing on Saturdays) at 7pm EST on Sirius Howard 101. Martling can also be heard on Howard 100 on Fridays when Sirius airs "Master Tape Theatre".
He appeared with Howard Stern Show successor Artie Lange in the 2001 film Mail Order Bride.
[edit] Personal life
Martling was born in Mineola, New York on Long Island. Martling has spoken publicly of his unabashed fondness for smoking marijuana and drinking Heineken. In December 2005, Martling declared that he did not have a drink in five years, but did admit to having an occasional joint.
Martling has an engineering degree from Michigan State University and currently resides in New York State in any one of his three houses. His great-uncle was New York politician Leonard W. Hall.
Martling once had a financial dispute with legendary comedian Rodney Dangerfield. Rodney claimed Jackie owed him a thousand dollars from a loan made back in the 1970s, but Jackie countered that Rodney was paid back in "jokes" and the debt was settled. Jackie was ridiculed for this by Howard and the rest of the staff.
Martling played in numerous bands until the late 1970s, when he took up stand-up comedy. He gave Bob Levy the nickname "Reverend". Levy's act was so dirty that Jackie thought that the title "Reverend" would be funny in an ironic way.
