Scott Salem
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Scott Salem, often referred to as Scott the Engineer, is the engineer for The Howard Stern Show. His main job is to create soundbites and edit recordings for use on the show. He frequently intervenes in the show and is often the object of jibes from Stern and the other cast members. He once frustrated Stern so much that Stern called him a retard, which he later apologized for.
Salem is known for smoking excessively and has nicotine stains on his hands as a result. He also claims to have very bad luck. Salem says that his mother told him as a child that the Salem family has a black cloud over their heads because they have encountered so much bad luck and difficulties in life. Once after a deejay job, he left his payment on top of his car and drove off. During the The Howard Stern Show's broadcasts from Las Vegas, he was asked to leave the casino whenever the cast members gambled for fear that his bad luck would rub off on them.
The Austin American-Statesman wrote that Scott is "always threatening to quit or on the verge of being fired, he's the show's whipping boy for technical problems".[1]

[edit] Notable Stern Show Events
Despite being a supporting member of the Stern Show staff, Salem has been involved in numerous well-known Stern Show happenstances, including:
Salem once volunteered to receive anal sex from porn actor Lexington Steele in exchange for $250,000, claiming that it would be no different from what his employer has been doing to him for years. He backed out after pressure from his family.
While training to perform 17 push-ups, Salem raged angrily at former Stern Show intern Mike Gange. Salem was being taped at the time and clips from the outburst are played regularly.
Salem once walked around WXRK's block in thong panties, high heels, and a dunce cap after losing a baseball bet.
For the Howard Stern Revelations Game, Salem admitted to cheating on his wife; his wife found out when the other woman continued harassing him.
Salem went bowling on September 11, 2001, a fact often lampooned by Stern and Stern Show staff.
On February 8, 2007, Salem finished third in "The Show's Fattest Man Contest," weighing in at 268 lbs (trailing only Artie Lange, 295 lbs, and Jason Kaplan, 269 lbs).
Several song parodies have been dedicated to him, such as "Brown Fingers", a spoof of "Brown Sugar" by the Rolling Stones; the song is a jab at Salem's smoking habit which has turned his fingers brown from tobacco stains. Another includes "Scott From The Block", spoofing "Jenny From The Block" originally sung by Jennifer Lopez.
Is often mocked for trying to crowbar his way into events featuring more regular Stern Show members, an example of which was in December of 2006 when he promised wack-packer Double A (Awesome Angelo) backstage access to Artie Lange's stand-up show at the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City in exchange for a free room at the Borgata, without first getting Lange's approval.
