Justin Burton

Justin "Jay" Burton is a fictional character on the long-running Channel 4 British television soap opera Hollyoaks.
He is played by actor Chris Fountain.

Troubled teen, Justin began misbehaving and smoking cannabis after he learned that his father committed suicide. He constantly hurt his family and hid behind Liz, who felt obliged to support him. However, after pushing stepsister Darlene through a plate glass window, Liz sent Justin off to boot camp.

Since then, he calmed considerably, completed his GCSEs at Hollyoaks Comprehensive, and recently reconciled with Darlene and Ali, becoming fast friends with his stepsiblings. He was framed by Macki for blowing up the science labs at his high school but later proved his innocence, although Macki was not identified as the culprit. He and stepbrother Ali were bullied by Macki and his gang, which dramatically ended with Ali stabbing Macki before being knocked down by a car and killed.
In his haste to cover up for his stepbrother, Justin led the police to believe it was he who had stabbed Macki and he was arrested for murder. He was bullied on remand in youth detention and escaped whilst on a trip to the dentist. He spent a month in hiding, but was eventually caught when the police followed his sister Mel as she brought him provisions. Justin was then back in prison awaiting trial. He would be visited in secret by Becca Dean, his teacher. Justin was found not guilty of murder and returned home.
[edit] Relationship with Becca
He had a relationship with Nicole Owen, whom he rejected in order to pursue Becca, however, it would have more than likely happened anyway, as Nicole lied about sleeping with Justin. He would later claim they were only together "in her head" - a claim supported by them never dating, only kissing once when Justin was on the run, and the lack of contact between the two when he was on holiday immediately after the trial until his return just before Christmas. Becca confronted him about his treatment of Nicole, and he and Becca ended up sleeping together. Becca was worried he would tell her husband, Jake Dean.
Justin is the same age as Becca's sister Nancy, with whom he had a brief relationship to make Becca jealous, when Justin informed Becca he was leaving, she begged him to stay in Hollyoaks. He had an affair with her and when Becca became pregnant, she was unsure whether Jake or Justin was the father. Becca left Justin after Grace Hutchinson died and decided to stay with husband Jake to raise "their" baby together rather than run away with Justin and become an outcast, as she thought that would be what was best for the baby. However, Jake found out about this affair and attacked Justin, leaving him with some nasty bruising on his face. Despite this, Justin and Becca continued their relationship, and Justin lived for a while in the flat Becca and her sister share. He developed a relationship with Becca, but they got into financial troubles. They lived off Justin's child benefits and his income from a part-time job at Il Gnosh.

After the death of his twin sisters (Sophie and Mel Burton) he was grief stricken. However He befriended Sonny Valentine, the local thug and became a menace together to the neighbourhood. His behaviour spiralled out of control by vandalising Foz's mural, for those who died in the fire, and then beat up student Kris Fisher at the Student Ball. Soon after this, he proposed to Becca, who was thinking about dumping him. They became engaged despite Becca's doubts about Justin's capabilities as a father. Soon after, Becca finally dumped Justin, but he filed a case against her for having sex with a minor. She was found guilty and was sentenced to two years imprisonment.

More recently, Justin and Sasha Valentine shared a kiss, although later in the week Justin told her nothing could ever happen between them.

After being locked in The Loft by Clare Cunningham, Justin and Warren Fox started "Taking stock" by drinking the beverages behind the bar. A drunken Justin Burton confessed to Warren that he had lied about Becca Dean sleeping with him when he was only 15; Warren was disgusted and forced Justin to confess to the police. He lost it after pointing out that Becca's newborn son was living without his mother, to which Justin responded by telling Warren, "It's not my problem". In a furious tirade at Justin, Warren told Justin "Yeah, you may be a kid, but you should know right from wrong!" as well as telling him that instead of trying to get revenge on Becca, Justin should've grown up and gotten over it.
Justin then goes to the police and tells them that he lied. They start the procedures to release Becca, but meanwhile she has a fight with her cellmate Fran, is stabbed, and dies in hospital from complications. The next day, Justin asked Jake Dean as to how Becca was doing, at which point a fuming Jake turned to Justin and told him Becca had died, before asking if Justin was happy now. After trying to apologise to Becca's younger sister, Nancy, she lost it and started attacking Justin, telling him how it was his fault that Becca was dead.

- Because of actions taken by Justin, 3 people have indirectly died. Macki died after being stabbed by a knife Justin had bought, and then step-brother Ali died after being hit by a car after Justin told him to get away from the wounded body of Macki. Around 18 months later, Becca Dean died after Justin lied to get her sent to prison, where she was ultimately stabbed by cellmate Fran.
