Leptotyphlopidae is a family of snakes composed of 2 genera and around 100 species. They occur in North and South America, Africa, and Asia. They can be found in a wide variety of habitats from arid areas to rainforest and are known to occur near ant and termite nests. They include what is believed to be the world's smallest snake, the Lesser Antillean Threadsnake, Leptotyphlops bilineatus. They are very slender, worm-like, and round in section. They have no teeth in the upper jaw, and feed mostly on termites or ants, their larvae and pupae. Most species suck out the contents of insect bodies and discard the skin.
