From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome!

Hello, LovePatsyCline, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  Mak (talk) 01:00, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

So, I'm guessing the dispute has resolved itself? Let me know if you need any help. Mak (talk) 20:29, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] West page

In regards to the rather rude message message you sent about the Dottie West page: I can't "clean it up myself" if I am reverted every time I try. That is not the way in which wikipedia is meant to work. I'll therefore make you a deal: I'll clean up the grammer while keeping the important information, if you (or whoever else keeps reverting the changes) agree to actually work with me rather than just erasing everything I do in a knee-jerk fashion. Okay?

Oh, and P.S.: IT's inappropriate to refer to a person in an article by their first name (which this article does repeatedly). Treybien 21:24 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cline page

There is nothing I can do to remove the reference and neutrality tags on the Cline page because I am not an adminstrator, just a regular wiki user. The person above (talk) is apparently the adminstrator assigned to you just like one is assigned to all new wiki users - they are the person who should be able to help. Contact them and inform them that you believe the POV comments have been edited out and the page now has sources (I put in two myself) and request they consider removing the reference and dispute tags that this other person put on there. I believe only an adminstrator can remove tags off pages like that. Teeb (talk)

[edit] Friendly Suggestion

Hi LPC, I suggest you contact Mak at their above talk page for advice and assistance concerning the Patsy Cline page situation. As an adminstrator, they should be able to help and possibly remove the POV and dispute tags if they disagree with them being there and feel the issue is resolved with your edits. Best, Teeb. [edit] Krystal.jpg

Please be sure to check all linking pages before overwriting an image. You overwrote an image displaying a Krystal restaurant with and image of Crystal Gayle. Thanks! GregChant 22:04, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Message from Teeb

Hi, thanks for your compliments and interest and help on pages I've created or worked on. I have noticed your contributions prior to your post to me and I am pleased to see them. It's great to see others who care so much about the pioneering ladies of country.

As per your request, I changed the Connie Smith hits title from "Greatest Hits" to "Biggest Hits" (I originally used GH because I didn't want to suggest that was ALL of her hits as I consider anything that goes top 40 a hit, although only top tens might be called major hits.)

Re Goldie Hill - you are quite welcome to be the "moderator" or "main editor" or whatever you call it for her page as alas my knowledge of her is that strong since she was before my time and I don't have any of her music beyond an EP but I did know she was an important early country soloist and deserved an wiki entry.

Are you perhaps the one who added the pop spaces for Dottie West's hits? I don't feel it's quite needed because Dottie unfortunately only had four records make the pop charts - What are We Doin' in Love was her only real pop hit at #14, although Country Sunshine did go top 50, Lesson in Leavin' and the non-major country hit If It's Alright with You also charted) - Dottie did cross over in terms of becoming a name in noncountry venues like Las Vegas and network televison but she didn't have much pop success unfortunately although I'm not sure she was really pursuing that anyway ala Dolly.

I'm glad you created a page for Margo Smith. I knew she was deserving but I didn't know much about her to create one. --Teeb

[edit] Damage

Please refrain from adding nonsense to Wikipedia, as you did to Sara Evans. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. --Yamla 20:11, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I Don't Like You Either

You said: "I love helping to contribute to revolutionary Country singers who have become very famous in their lifetimes. All I did was add a new album picure to Sara Evans' background information. What is wrong with that and how is that vandalism. Leave me alone and find somebody else to bother. Don't bother me again, please!"

Please use the preview next time before submitting your changes so you can verify if what you did worked (or not, as in this case). --Yamla 22:46, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Additionally, I have removed the copyrighted image from your user page. Wikipedia policy does not permit copyrighted images in user space. --Yamla 22:46, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Once again, copyrighted images are not permitted on your user page. --Yamla 00:18, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blanking

Please do not blank current warnings from this page. Thanks. --Yamla 00:50, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

You have been blocked for 24 hours for your continued copyright violations. You are welcome to resume editing once your block expires, but please do not place any more copyrighted images on your user page. You know this is not permitted. --Yamla 00:22, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Images on user page

You said: "Yamla, I am sorry for being rude to you yesterday. I will try to be nicer and will not put a image on my user page if it wasn't created by me. I am terribly sorry."

You are welcome to put images on your user page if you wish. However, Wikipedia does not allow copyrighted images. It's only copyrighted images that are a problem. Unfortunately, that means most images aren't permitted on user pages. --Yamla 01:00, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
And I look forward to many more productive edits from you. I've been looking at some of your contributions and you have made a measurable improvement to the articles you work on. --Yamla 01:00, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Buck Owens New.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Buck Owens New.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 21:27, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Citations for Patsy Cline

Citations, from authoritative and verifiable sources, for each piece of non-general knowledge information presented in the article must be introduced in order to meet the requirements of citation. External links to fan sites do not constitute a fulfillment of this requirement. This is especially important, as wikipedia is not a haven for original research. Please take a look at WP:CITE, When to cite sources, and WP:RS if you have any confusion. Thanks! GregChant 12:05, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Notices on Patsy Cline

Do not remove the NPOV and Citation notices on Patsy Cline until the issues have been resolved. Merely adding sources does not fix the issues. Every single statement that is not common knowledge (the bulk of the article) must be properly cited by footnotes or Harvard-style citations. I implore you to read WP:CITE before attempting to tackle this issue.

The article has been flagged for POV because the language is in such a way that Patsy Cline was a saint. Wikipedia is not a means to give a glowing testimonial to someone you adore. There are fan sites for that. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia: the vast majority of the content in the article is patently UN-encyclopedic. Please see WP:NPOV if you have any questions on how to fix an article that does not have a neutral point of view.

The notices are not there to indicate that you did a bad job, or that Patsy Cline is a bad person. They are there so the Wikipedia community can know about articles that need work. Removing the notices removes the article from the proper categories, when in fact, the issues have not been resolved. Thanks! GregChant 20:33, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:The Goods.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:The Goods.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:14, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:TerryBerry.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:TerryBerry.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok 03:26, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ed Bruce

Hello, I noticed you were the originating editor on the Ed Bruce page. Today I edited the article to wikify it and bring it to standard. If you could please go onto the article and cite some sources it would be greatly appreciated. I tagged the areas that need sources cited. I think you will enjoy the flow of the article now. If I can be of any assistance, please leave me a message on my talk page. Have a great day. Junebug52 18:17, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey there. I noticed you removed my citation requests from Tim McGraw (song)[1]. I know they ugly up the article, but those facts have to come from somewhere. Please take the time to improve the article before removing the calls for improvement. NickelShoe (Talk) 21:07, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:DaveDudleyAlbum.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:DaveDudleyAlbum.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz Saalfeld (Talk) 10:49, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bessie Smith

I've reverted to the previous version from a few days ago. Fan-1967 21:32, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

If that happens again you can revert it yourself, see Wikipedia:Reverting for specific tips. Mak (talk) 21:33, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Useful to learn how. We've all screwed up an article once or twice, where the best thing to do was go back to the last version before we started. Fan-1967 21:36, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for your note about using references!

Thanks for taking it in a positve way. I added a few more just to give you some easy sources for the autobiographical stuff -- the Rolling Stone web site and the Hall of Fame inductee website. Also, I added an external link, an article by Bonnie Raitt on how much of an influence Etta James was on her. I know Janis Joplin felt the same way but I don't have the reference off hand. She has been very influencial on female singers because she was a first in many ways. As far as I know, she never did the cutsy "little girl" stuff that so many female singers of that period felt they had to do. Also, I know I have some book references I can add. Sincerely, Mattisse(talk) 22:23, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

P.S. In the movie "The Rainman" (Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise) the song "At Last" is part of the sound track to great effect -- when they get to Los Vegas, if you are familiar with the movie. Sincerely, Mattisse(talk) 22:23, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Etta James

I have some footnotes to add to the Etta James article. My problem is that some of the biolgraphical stuff is mixed in with her career and my footnotes can't voucher for that. For example, I have a reference for her first recording with Modern Records, Johnny Otis, Work With Me, Annie etc. but not for how old she was or that her family had just moved etc. Would it be all right if I take off the paragraph the part the footnote doesn't cover? I could tack it on to the last paragragh or leave it by itself and you could decide what do do with it. What do you think? Sincerely, Mattisse(talk) 00:14, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 16 Biggest Hits (Lynn Anderson album)

Disambiguation pages exist to clarify confusion where two or more similarly named articles exist – for example, if two famous people have the same name. Ideally, Wikipedia articles should not link to disambiguation pages (with rare exceptions where the ambiguity of a term is being discussed); instead links should go directly to the appropriate article. In this case, since there's no existing article, it's probably more appropiate to simply de-link the "Top of the World" song on this album. --Geniac 13:31, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Bmandrell.jpg. [edit] Possibly unfree Image:Margo Smith-Nothing to Lose.jpg

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Margo Smith-Nothing to Lose.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. Please go to its page for more information if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. MECUtalk 23:28, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi. I did go to that URL and there nothing to say that that picture found there is a CD cover. Unless it is a CD cover, the image would be classified under fair use when then it would be replaceable, as she is still alive. Unless you can provide another source that shows this image is a CD cover, such as amazon or such, or something on that website that says or shows this image is a cd cover, I still don't believe it is a CD cover. --MECUtalk 22:05, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Actually, we're both right. You were right that this image was used on the CD cover. But I'm right that this image isn't the image of the CD cover. This image isn't a CD cover so we can't use it. It will be deleted. The CD cover is perfectly fine under fair use. Also, it's not polite or civil to say "I'm right and you're wrong" or to demand an apology. You must assume good faith that I was acting in the best interests of Wikipedia and trying my best. Either way, in the end, Wikipedia is the better for our actions by removing the problem image and having the CD cover instead. Please read the policies I linked to, they will serve you well in your time at Wikipedia. --MECUtalk 23:09, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
I don't pick on new users. I've tagged images that have been on Wikipedia years longer than I have. I didn't know you had been on Wikipedia less than I had until you mentioned it and I went and found your first edit. Also, you might want to read about ownership of articles. Lastly, I don't delete images. Only admins can delete images and I am not an admin. Have a good day. --MECUtalk 23:28, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:JenniferHolliday-Nice Photo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:JenniferHolliday-Nice Photo.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then you need to specify who owns the copyright, please. If you got it from a website, then a link to the website where it was taken from with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. [edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Showcase D.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Showcase D.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use.

Thank you. [edit] Article naming

In order to re-name a page, we say you "move" it. Next to the history tab you should see a move tab. When you move a page you should try to follow naming conventions and not go against consensus, if it's been discussed. It is also courteous to fix any redirects to the current name to point to the new name instead. For more information, see Help:Moving a page. Mak (talk) 23:59, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Marie_Osmond-Cool.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Marie_Osmond-Cool.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Edits to Marie Osmond

Please read WP:MoS before reverting, specifically about the headings. Also, only free images (not promo images) can be used to identify the artist. mirageinred 15:37, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Marie Osmond-Think.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Marie Osmond-Think.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Louise_Mandrell-New.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Louise_Mandrell-New.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] Taylor Swift

Concerning the Taylor Swift page, you reverted all edits I made to the article. Please use the discussion page if you disagree with these edits. The purpose of my edits were to get the page to a NPOV. This included removing the cleanup and unreferenced tags, please only remove those tags when the page has been referenced and cleaned up. Further removal of tags without improvement of the article or reversion of edits can be seen as vandalism per WP:3RR. That is not to say don't edit the article but please discuss it. Thanks -- Iosef U T C 05:57, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:92Grand.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:92Grand.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:25, 5 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 22:25, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
