[edit] Re: Darien Williams notable?

Well...there is a new editor (well, fairly new now) that tends to create articles relating to OU that I, too, believe are not quite notable. I have warned him that many of these BIO articles he's created could be deleted. I have no problem with you nominated this article for deletion. I would have done it earlier but I had hoped he would come back and expand it. I have since forgotten about it. If such a time comes that this player does become a big-time player such as getting All-American or some award, the article as it stands now would not be difficult to recreate.↔NMajdantalk 16:13, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Alexia_Ashford_Mutant.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Alexia_Ashford_Mutant.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Image:10012001.jpg

Your resolution reduction, while maybe necessary, I think reduces the image too much (which distorted the image as its used on the Street Fighter page). I am a little worried about what seems to be copyright paranoia... could you point me to discussion on this issue? I reverted your reduction... if you want to reduce it, could you please to do it to a more reasonable size of at least 300px so it can be used in any of the default thumbnail sizes. gren グレン 14:01, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing me to the conversation and explaining. gren グレン 14:12, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption of ISUEngineerGuy

Yes, that would be great if you were willing to adopt me. What do you think of my article? What can I improve?

Thanks for responding. You were correct when thinking I was talking about ISU Formula SAE. As for its notability, you will see that in the next couple months. ISU Formula SAE is different from other schools in that although its small compared to other huge university teams, it places very well. Another difference is that every little aspect is run by students. Other universities have academic advisors and professors heading the teams and contributing to their success. This year is going to be a record breaking year and show that Iowa State University has the best car in the pack.ISUEngineerGuy 18:39, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

I understand that Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, and that is why my article has nothing in it about future prosperities. Where have you seen anything about future prosperities in my article? Secondly, my information is from published sources. If you go to my refrences you will see much of the information is from them. Lastly who ever said I was involved with this group? Yes, I do attend Iowa State University, but I am not in this group. I have not set any opinions in this article, it is strictly informational. The only opinion i have set forth was that I believe this article about the team is notable. ISUEngineerGuy 18:58, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] John Service report images up for deletion

Hi there, I got your notice on the John Service report images. It appears you used a bot to automate the text for each entry, and I don't have one, I figured I'd respond here and address all the images you've nominated for deletion. While the images are technically orphaned, they actually all have links going to them in the article for the Dixie Mission (rated at good), and are part of the notation for article. In essence, their presence greatly assists in the factuality of the article. Deleting them would then damage the quality of the article's reliability. If necessary, I can create a page "Reports by John Service" and have thumbnails of all the images (and thus, put the link to that article in the notation).

And yes, the images are free, and were de-classified for academic use. They should be perfectly fine for use on Wikipedia. Hope that clarifies the matter. :) ~ (The Rebel At) ~ 22:26, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again for the template advice. I've added the template to all the images, plus three more on another article which weren't part of the list. I think a script would have come in handy on this one!~ (The Rebel At) ~ 00:36, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your message concerning the unspecified source for Image:Gemütlich.jpg

Hi, I uploaded that image almost four (four!) years ago, at a time when there were no tags in Wikipedia: Claiming "fair use" was all that was needed at the time. I said so on the image description page:

{{Unverified}} indeed: Taken by an unknown photographer somewhere in Vienna, Austria, and lifted [by me] from an unknown web site advertising the establishment pictured, a wine tavern on the outskirts of the city.

And now I get your message:

Thanks for uploading Image:Gemütlich.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself (did I?? Didn't I mention the unknown photographer??), then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

So what do you want me to do? Lie? Best wishes, <KF> 16:58, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

o yeah. about the underscore, it's because i cut and pasted it from firefox. i was thinking A1 may not work because it's sort of in context. ill try prod. i dont think ive used that before. ps, i tagged a few images using the script. i didnt get blocked, so i think im doing okay. its cool to provide a tag for someone instead of tagging the image for delete, right? the_undertow talk 01:04, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
yeah, i was actually specifically thinking of a dvd cover - so you hit that on the head. tx. the_undertow talk 01:12, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help: Spurious <br/> ?

Mecu, I've a problem with a spurious break or space in the infobox template NCAA Athlete. For an example, please take a look at the infobox for Joakim Noah. Note the extra space in the Tournaments section between the 2005 and 2006 tournament. I can't seem to locate the problem. Would you please take a look when you can? Thanks, Pepto gecko 01:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

That looks fine. It's a little peculiar the way the break adds a space. Thanks for your help! Pepto gecko 02:31, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Table of Contents Help

Since you're in a helpful frame of mind...

I'd like to create or locate a TOC with just a header bar. For example, view Template:CategoryTOC. I'd like it to look similar to this but without the accompanied detailed TOC list on the left (or right, as the case may be). It could be used for long articles like Wikipedia:WikiProject College basketball/Master Table. I've tried playing about with the CategoryTOC template but have met with dismal success.

Is something like this possible? Pepto gecko 02:57, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to be a bother - If you're too busy, I can broadcast a general help question. Pepto gecko 16:37, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

I understand your point about the section headers. However, I was hoping to do something a little more dynamic because new entries are being added daily and/or the section headers are being renamed(e.g. - Alabama Birmingham was renamed UAB). I'm afraid a static TOC (hard-linked to sections) would quickly become obsolete or a large headache to maintain.

I'm shooting for a dynamic header/TOC at the top of the page which would look and perform similar to the CategoryTOC where each letter would navigate to the first section instance (if any) of said letter. I was hoping to be able to navigate in this manner on the Wikipedia:WikiProject College basketball/Master Table and thus remove the monstrous TOC which prepends the article. If something like this is not possible, I'll try to petition the users to allow me to remove the TOC. Pepto gecko 17:19, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Pretty cool! I obviously misunderstood your meaning. I does seem to disable the sortable headings. Any way around this that you know of? Pepto gecko 17:41, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption

Thanks for contacting me. Sure could use the help. Looks like you have a great deal of experience with images on Wikipedia. I could really use help there--specifically proper tagging to confirm and insure no copyrights are violated. Thanks. Mediathink 17:46, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] answers

  1. What you want to get out of adoption? Better skills at editing (Codes and tags and know what really needs editing) and being a good Wikipedian.
  2. What you want to accomplish here at Wikipedia? -- Help Wikipedia gain more credibility. It's been beaten unfairly by those who misunderstand it or fear it.
  3. What you like to do here on Wikipedia? -- I like to browse randomly--I learn so much. More and more I worry about very subtle vandalism and how vandalism is defined. I know there are a lot of people who benefit from Wiki losing credibility (MSM). And Honestly I think the wrong people are being blamed. I think Metawiki is incredibly cool. It never ceases to amaze me how this community can parse its thinking.
  4. What are your problems at Wikipedia? -- Tags and codes. Particularly images-- as I mentioned. I'm getting better though. The sandbox helps.
  5. If you have any specific problems or questions I can answer now. -- What is the best way to upload an image. What is the best way to assure that --as an editor-- I've provided the essential information to assure compliance with copyright policies?

OK, I understand. I will try to use the same license in both sites. Thanks for your job, it's a very good idea to say to Flickr members when then have a photo copied to Commons. Damouns 18:45, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] linking to images on userpages...

Hi. you left this on my talkpage

"Please do not use fair use images outside article namespace. I have removed both images at User:Turangalila/Images because they both were used under fair use. Please see WP:FUC for the restrictions of using fair use images on Wikipedia. (This instance is a violation of #9). Thank you for your cooperation."

sorry bout that. i'm still a bit of a newbie. quick question: is it ok to link to the image w/o displaying it (ie: [[:image:xxxx]]), just to have a shortcut to the image page? Also, what about brief use in a sandbox? wasn't totally clear on that from WP:FUC or your "10 things" page. thanks again --Turangalila (talk) 01:27, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Multiple User Accounts for User:Soxrock

Hi Mecu,

I've been watching this for a bit, myself. It doesn't appear that he's been at all clandestine about his multiple accounts as he's actually identified them back to User:Soxrock. I tagged some of them after I saw that he'd listed his main account on their User page. It appears that he is:

I've been interacting with him for a while regarding fair use of images from SportsLogos.net and I had provided copies of a fair use rationale on several of his Talk pages before realizing that they were all the same person. I've not seen evidence that he has used the multiple accounts to preclude WP:3RR nor supporting his other users as a WP:Sock.

What is the best way to proceed on an official basis?

Thanks for your help.

Take care,

Larry --Lmcelhiney 14:42, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry, these are the only accounts I operate under. I did have a "bot" account proposal, but it failed. Now my intention has not been to make it seem like more support for me, or to bolster my accounts, but rather which account I bothered to sign in under. I generally use an account for a couple of days then switch to another. This account is used very sporadically. But I apologize for any confusion, but I'm not trying to stir anymore controversy with images (as in reverting back to uploaded size, because since I already have the image, I don't need it at full size, so feel free to reduce any uploaded images). The only thing is is that I'm likely not going to stop using all these accounts, I like all of them the same. But, I'm not going to use them for WP:3RR just to keep reverting. Thanks for understanding. TheSportsLogosMaster 15:49, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
