Norwood (Edmonton)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Norwood is an area in north central Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, centered on Norwood Boulevard (111 Ave) and 95 Street and is bordered by the communities of McCauley to the south, Cromdale to the east, Alberta Avenue and Parkdale to the north and Kingsway to the west.[1].
The area has generally not had a good reputation among Edmontonians, due to many of its residents living in low income brackets compared to the rest of the city, however in reality the area has lower crime rates than many other Edmonton neighbourhood (including Downtown Edmonton).[citation needed]
The area is represented in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in the riding of Edmonton Highlands-Norwood, a seat currently held by Brian Mason, leader of the Alberta New Democratic Party.
[edit] Norwood Square
Norwood Square is a park located on the north west corner of 114 Avenue and 95 Street. There is a coummunity centre, the Norwood Community Centre, at the same location.[2]
[edit] Notes
- ^ Norwood is not listed as a neighborhood per se in the maps utility on the City of Edmonton website. The name refers to an area of the city that includes parts of all the surrounding neighborhoods.
- ^ Norwood Square and Norwood Community Centre, while located in the Norwood area, are formally within the boundaries of the neighborhood of Alberta Avenue.
