[edit] Robot M-A-X and Black Woman: The Terrible Twosome
Robot M-A-X and Black Woman: The Terrible Twosome is the first Magneteer and Magnet animated movie. It also introduces the villains M-A-X and his lackey Black Woman to the series. It was first aired as a three-part TV Movie for The Adventures of Magneteer and Magnet Season 1 on April 3, 2005.
Notes
- Villains: Computer/Robot M-A-X, Black Woman, M-A-X's Minions
- Allies: Formula Labs scientists, Professor André
Part One- The Deal
The movie starts in a dark, derelict street corner. Two police cops peek around a corner, but look away just before a dark shadow slinks away. The camera cuts to the figure, a young lady wearing a tight-fitting gray bodysuit (similar to Catwoman's from Batman: The Animated Series). She is Daria Monroe, the expert criminal. She expresses relief at escaping the police yet again. However, when she drops to the ground, she encounters more trouble in the form of muscular, armed guards, who grab her by the arms and take her away.
Meanwhile, in a gigantic warehouse, a large computer sits in the middle of a room covered from ceiling to floor in technology. The guards escort Daria in here, and dump her on the floor right in front of the computer, on whose screen there is a digitalized version of a basic human face. The computer introduces itself as Computer M-A-X, an artificial intelligence. M-A-X offers Daria a job working as his bodyguard, to which Daria comments that he's "kind of stuck for the moment". Instead of getting mad, Computer M-A-X merely says that that is why he needs her to steal a mechanical supersuit from Formula Labs, in order to supplement his intelligence with "artificial movement", as he calls it. Daria agrees, and one of M-A-X's other minions brings Daria a black bodysuit complete with a plethora of weapons. Upon seeing herself in the suit (using M-A-X's screen as a mirror), she rechristens herself "Black Woman".
Part Two- Theft and Battle at Formula Labs
That evening at Formula Labs, the scientists, among them Prof. André, are packing up to go home. However, André's progress is impeded by the appearance of Black Woman and three of M-A-X's strongest and best soldiers. Black Woman knocks out André and takes the supersuit. As she and the soldiers make their escape, they come across Magneteer and his sidekick Magnet, who had been watching over Formula Labs from above.
As the guards flee, Magnet pursues, leaving Magneteer to deal with Black Woman. However, the weapons provided by M-A-X make Black Woman more than a match for Magneteer, and he is quickly overwhelmed. In one of the most iconic scenes in The Adventures of Magneteer and Magnet, Black Woman stands over a fallen Magneteer and says, "You can't beat a girl whose twice as good as you!" She bids him "Tchao!" before taking a running leap out the window with the supersuit under her arm; she activates her hangglider as she falls, and glides all the way back to M-A-X's hideout. Magnet returns after dispatching the guards to find his partner just barely conscious. Magneteer says he has to go after Black Woman, but André, who came in with Magnet, tells Magneteer that he needs to recover his strength first.
Part Three- The Birth of a New Villain and Death of an Old One
Back at M-A-X's technological hideout, Computer M-A-X is glad to see that Black Woman's mission was successful, although he expresses disdain at Black Woman's having returned alone. After removing her hood, Black Woman tells him that Magneteer and Magnet defeated the guards, but reassures him that once he gets his new "body", the two of them will become an unbeatable team. After this speech, Computer M-A-X gets impatient and orders Black Woman to hook up the supersuit, which she does. She activates the sequence that will transfer M-A-X's AI to the supersuit body.
Once the sequence is complete, Computer M-A-X's screen goes blank, and the eyes of the robot suit light up with an eerie red light. As she steps around to examine him, Daria comments that "you look good . . . good and powerful". M-A-X, pleased to hear her say that, unleashes two long, mechanical tentacles from his sides, which envelop M-A-X's old computer screen and crush it into scrap. Delighted with his new body, he tells Black Woman that "no longer [is he] Computer M-A-X, but Robot M-A-X".
The End- A Crime, A Defeat, and a Promise
The two go off to commit their first crime together, which is an attack on the Bi-Mon-Sci-Con (Bi-Monthly Science Convention). Black Woman knocks out the guards, and when Robot M-A-X enters the convention, people panic and run for alternate exits. When the Mayor of Superville, who is heading the convention, protests, Robot M-A-X grabs him just as he did the computer terminal, and hurls the mayor halfway across the room, causing him to crash into an exhibit about "The Reaction of Water to Electrical Impulses". Magneteer and Magnet appear, and Magnet threatens M-A-X. However, the robotic villain ignores them, and Magneteer attacks him. Black Woman swings a whip (identical to Catwoman's) that knocks Magnet out of the air and to the ground. She then attacks him, giving him one superpowered punch after another.
Meanwhile, Robot M-A-X throws Magneteer to the ground. As Black Woman rejoins him, she suggests that they leave. Though Robot M-A-X claims he has a new rule, "Never leave a foe in the midst of a battle", Black Woman succeeds in persuading him. The two villains depart (through a rocket on M-A-X's back, with Black Woman holding onto his waist) while Magneteer and Magnet watch dejectedly. Magneteer swears they'll get them next time, and the two heroes fly off into the sky, with Magnet suggesting they return to Formula Labs to rest up for the next battle (Heros Cometh).
Quotes
- Computer M-A-X: I have heard of your exploits, Daria Monroe, and I have decided to hire you. You will serve as my bodyguard, in a new costume.
Daria: Well, you know, you're kind of stuck for the moment.
M-A-X: Ah, but that is why you are going to steal a supersuit from Formula Labs for me. I transfer my memory to the suit, making me mobile, and then you can be my bodyguard.
Daria: (folds her arms) Maybe, Mr. M-A-X. But first I'd like to see my "new costume".
(One of the minions bring her a black costume complete with high-tech weaponry)
(An hour later, Daria is seen in her new costume)
Computer M-A-X: (smiling) Well, do we have a deal?
Black Woman: I like my new look. I think we can work out something.
Computer M-A-X: (nods) Glad to have you on the team. (he chuckles nastily)
[edit] Return to a Dead Place
The TV Movie, Return to a Dead Place, is the last episode of The Adventures of Magneteer and Magnet. It also introduces Magnet's archenemy, Emperor Vorigan.
Notes
- Villains: Faceless clones, Vorigan, Vaunt Guard (in Magnet's vision)
- Allies: Crie-Al R'tenn (in a vision; seen in suspended animation in present-time)
- This is the only episode in which Professor André does not appear even in a cameo role.
Part One
Grim Hero
The episode starts with Magneteer and Magnet in a junkyard fighting two of Dr. E. Vil's faceless clones, shapeshifted to look like the superheroes themselves. The clone Magnet knocks the original into a pile of trashcans. Magneteer flies over, grabs the clone, and hurls it into Magneteer's clone, effectively defeating them both. After a short boast, the superhero notices his partner's glum face and he asks what's wrong. Magnet tells his mentor that he was thinking about his mother, about whom he remembers very little. Magneteer mentions the Mountain Cave (from "Superhero Sidekicks") where he first found Magnet, and the hopeful sidekick suggests they go there.
Magnet's Secret
At the Mountain Cave, Magnet almost instinctively walks past his father's tank and the one that once held Magnet himself. He stops in front of a tank labeled 'Crie-Al R'tenn', in which a light blue-skinned female can be seen floating in greenish liquid. Magnet reveals that the blue tint is due to the liquid having to be very cold in order to hold each tank's inhabitant. Magneteer points to the computer terminal, the same one where he listened to J'orden's holographic recording. The heroes head over that way, and Magnet notices, with some shock, that something is missing from a large crevice in the wall behind the terminal. He calls the something by its name, the 'Evertime Portal Blaster', which can create portals to the deadly life-force draining dimension of Evertime (a Phantom Zone-like dimension). Suddenly, an energy blast from out of nowhere knocks Magnet backward. A tall, gray-skinned humanoid wearing silver battle armor and a green helmet steps into view. He boasts he has defeated M'Xor, and mentions his name: Emperor Vor Un-Guhn.
The Return and Revenge of Vorigan
Magneteer steps in front of his partner and tells Vor Un-Guhn to leave Magnet alone. Vor Un-Guhn corrects Magneteer, saying that "his name is M'Xor and he is the son of J'orden R'tenn". He also tells the furious hero to call him Vorigan, since he prefers that over 'Vor Un-Guhn', his real name. When Magneteer flies in to attack, Vorigan fires another energy blast from a hidden gun in his chestplate that sends Magneteer flying backward; he almost hits a tank near J'orden's, but Magneteer stops himself for fear of killing the inhabitant. After that little incident, he decides it is best to take the battle outside. He dodges blast after blast from Vorigan, leading the evil alien warlord to the hole leading outside. It works, until Magneteer is hit by a superpowered punch from his extraterrestrial opponent. Vorigan laughs wickedly and the screen goes black, leading to Part 2.
Part Two
Parental Super-Vision
Meanwhile, Magnet inexplicably finds himself back on his homeplanet, which he thinks can't be right since his homeplanet no longer exists. However, something is very wrong with the city, since everything is quiet, none of the planet's inhabitants except himself are around, and there are Vaunt Guard troops everywhere. Magnet is shocked when he comes face-to-face with his mother, Crie-Al (pronounced CREE-all). She warns him that he is having a vision; thus, she is not really there. Despite this, Magnet is still able to hug her, which he does, glad to be able to see her again "even if it's not really 'her'". He asks his Mom where everyone is, to which she responds that they are all in the suspended animation tanks, including her husband. Magnet realizes that he is imagining the point in time right before his home was destroyed; Crie-Al also tells her son that the planet was completely and effectively destroyed by Vorigan using the Evertime Portal Blaster. Magnet asks his Mom if there's anything he can do. She reveals that the only way to beat Vorigan is to send him to Evertime, which Magnet thinks is cruel, but Crie-Al emphasizes the words "the only way".
Vorigan is Victorious!
Meanwhile, back in the real world, Vorigan is mercilessly pummeling Magneteer, with the latter being unable to land a single hit on his foe. Vorigan charges a mega-energy blast which sends Magneteer crashing into a building, where he falls all the way to the ground. Vorigan once again boasts his victory, this time of "M'Xor's friend". Rising into the air, Vorigan raises the Evertime Portal Blaster and summons a portal to suck the entirety of Superville into "the unrelenting world of Evertime". Magnet awakens from his flashback/dream/vision (he calls it all three in wondering what just happened) to see Vorigan surrounded by black energy that is easily destroying Superville in order to take only the citizens to Evertime.
Defeat of Vorigan
Magnet shakes himself awake and flies into the air. Vorigan turns to see "M'Xor" flying at him, to which he exclaims in shock that he thought he killed him. Magnet reiterates a point he made earlier (in "True Villainy is an Art") that superheroes cannot die while there are still lives to save. Vorigan attacks him, and the same fight from before plays out, although this time, Magnet is able to get the upper hand on the overlord. He becomes 'invisible' by flying too fast for Vorigan to see, and using this, he is able to swipe the Blaster from Vorigan. A panicked Vorigan states that the weapon does not affect its user, to which Magnet reminds him that he no longer has the weapon. Vorigan screams as he is thrown into the portal, ending up in the harsh timeless Evertime. Magnet fires a blast that dissipates the portal and he then breaks the Blaster in two, saying it's too dangerous for anyone to use, especially one of their many enemies. Magneteer wakes up at this point to see that Vorigan is gone; he flies up to his sidekick and congratulates him upon learning that Magnet beat the emperor. The two hug before flying off into the sky. As they do so, Magnet looks over his shoulder and waves to the Mountain Cave, where his parents remain in suspended animation. In the sky above, Crie-Al's almost-transparent face appears, and it smiles, proud that 'M'Xor' has become a hero.
