[edit] The name
Some inscriptions on rocks discovered in the vicinity of modern Sehore states its name as Sidhapur and Sidrapur, which degerated into Sehore in day-to-day usage. On the other hands, a section of etymologist believe that Shehore derives its name from Sher, a word in Hindi, which means a lion, and a large number of lions were found in earlier times in the areas. The location of Shehore on the foothills of the Vindhyachal mountains also give credence to this assumption.
