Showa Modan

Showa Modan (昭和モダン=Shouwa's moderness) is the culture of the compromise between Japanese and European styles that started at the beginning of the Shouwa.

Showa era began after Kanto Daishinsai (関東大震災=Great Kanto Earthquake) in Taisho era (大正時代), , its social condition was the times when the May 15 Incident(五・一五事件), and February 26 Incident(二・二六事件), happened and the war seems to be begin.

In those days, life style was changed rapidly, Japanese women begun to put on closes and hat in contrast with put on Kimono (着物) and made Japanese hairstyle (日本髪) before. The woman conductor of the bus was called Bas gāru (バス・ガール woman bus conductor?), put on the most advanced clothes became called Moga (モガ modern Girl?).
Houses were built along railway lines. the people living there did some shopping at the department store of the terminal, and called in at the restaurant or the cafe in the return from it in the holiday.
Nezu Kiichiroh (根津嘉一郎) president of Tobu railway (東武鉄道), and Kobayashi Ichizo (小林一三) president of Hankyu railway (阪急鉄道), they constructed modern garden city.
