The Science Academy of South Texas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Science Academy of South Texas, also known as 'SciTech', is a high school in Mercedes, Texas, United States.
In 2003, it was placed 8th on Newsweek's "America's Best High Schools" list.[1] The school serves as an alternative to larger high schools of local independent school districts for students interested in pursuing careers in science, engineering, or technology. Being a public magnet school, open enrollment has been the school's policy since 2002, although application is required. In 2005 however, the increased number of applicants forced the school to create a waiting list for the first time in its history. The Science Academy of South Texas is part of the South Texas Independent School District. The Science Academy of South Texas has notable partnerships with Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine.
The Science Academy participates in UIL competitions on a weekly basis and has won numerous awards in every category. Science Academy is also known for its great teachers and its intensive curriculum which most students say has prepared them well for college.
The students of Science Academy created a story that claims there is a swimming pool on the roof of the building. The students as well as the teachers go along with this claim and tell the story to all incoming freshmen. Some students have even put up satellite pictures portraying a swimming pool on the roof.
