Please do not copy content from other websites. This is a copyright violation and is not allowed. This message is in regards to your article on The Mike O'Malley Show. Your article will require a complete rewrite. --Wafulz 19:27, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Welcome, and thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia! Your test worked, and thank you for reverting or removing it yourself. The best way to do tests in the future would be to use the sandbox. You can look at these pages as well: how to edit a page, the tutorial, and how to write a great article. All of these pages are good places to start. Again, welcome, and I hope that you will like Wikipedia. You can also use the preview button to see your changes before saving. --Dhartung | Talk 19:38, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page and make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. Wildthing61476 15:17, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:CDs.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:CDs.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

[edit] Samuel Arnold
Hi, I notice that you moved the Samuel Arnold article to Samuel Arnold (composer) by cutting & pasting the article text, and replaced the former with a disambiguation page. While disambigating is probably appropriate in this case, the correct way to move an article to a new name is to use the "move" function, which you should be able to access via a "move" tab at the top of almost all pages, this preserves the article's edit history, which as well as being a useful editing tool is required for copyright reasons. (See WP:MOVE for more about how & when to move pages.) There's no need for you to do anything with the Samual arnold page right now, as I've left a request for an administrator to handle it, but I thought you would like to know for future reference. -- AJR | Talk 21:43, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:TIP.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:TIP.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Awyong Jeffrey Mordecai Salleh 01:03, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits to Sue Murphy and for creating Sue Murphy (politician). When you move a page and create a disambiguation page use the {{disambig}} tag to show the page is a disambiguation page. [edit] Edits to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson
Do you happen to have citations for your recent additions? The folding chair was actually patented in 1911, and Chicken a la King (originally 'a la Keene', apparently) dates from the 1920's. Where are you getting your information? -- Vary | Talk 17:30, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- Again, please add citations for your additions to Wikipedia. All information in Wikipedia must be verifiable, and without citations, it may be removed. Thanks. -- Vary | Talk 17:40, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've reverted your additions to the Washington and Jefferson articles. Jefferson did introduce a swivel chair to the united states after seeing them in Europe, and did create an improvement to the dumbwaiter, but he didn't invent either one. The other additions, so far as I can tell, aren't true. Please be aware that deliberately adding incorrect information to Wikipedia articles is considered vandalism and can result in a block. The best way to avoid your edits being taken for intentionally inaccurate vandalism is to verify the additions by providing a reputable source. If you'd like to discuss these changes, you can do so on the article talk pages. Thanks. -- Vary | Talk 18:20, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked from editing
You have been blocked from editing Wikipedia for one week for continually uploading unsourced images in violation of copyright and despite numerous warnings. If you continue this behavior when the block expires, you will be blocked again for a longer period of time. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 18:27, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Hopefully, you will not be offended by this block, to the point of not wanting to return to WK. I think with a small amount of work you can probably reinstate lots of your images. You have to understand Wikipedia's position of not wanting to violate copyright laws. I especially hope you can find the proper way to reinstate Louis J. Weichmann's photo. Wanted to do so myself, but I lack the computer skills. Dr. Dan 02:02, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:John W. Griggs.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:John W. Griggs.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.
Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Dakota 22:45, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Ypsilanti water tower
Let's not get into an edit war over List of historic civil engineering landmarks. Just adding it back to the list after I deleted it and gave my reasons why, without giving your own reasons, is not productive. I could not find any mention of the Ypsilanti project on the ASCE web site: http://www.asce.org/history/landmark/search.cfm . This is where I got the "official" list of projects that have been given the Historic status. Do you have information to the contrary? Brianhe 20:40, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] About Franklin Pierce, Jr.
Hi - I've nominated Franklin Pierce, Jr. for deletion following the Wikipedia:Proposed deletion policy. If you remove the proposed deletion tag, I will nominate it for deletion following the longer, more drawn out WP:AFD mechanism. Although it's not policy Wikipedia:Notability (people) is generally used as the standard of notability a person should have to warrant a separate Wikipedia article. I wouldn't be surprised to find a mention of this child in the article on Franklin Pierce, Sr., but having a separate article on an infant who died at the age of 3 days seems ludicrous. I'm pretty sure the AFD nomination will succeed, so I'd suggest you save everyone the trouble and simply let the article be deleted following the proposed deletion process. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 23:10, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- I see you've been blocked (below) for a month. This means you can't really contest the PROD of the Franklin Pierce, Jr. article, so I'll just take this article straight to AFD (assuming you would have insisted on this if you weren't blocked). I'm nearly positive this article will be deleted by consensus at AFD, but I don't want you to think anyone pulled a fast one on you about this (I'm sure being blocked is annoying enough). Since you're blocked, you won't be able to comment on the AFD. If you're watching the AFD and want to make any comments, please make them here and I'll convey them there. -- Rick Block (talk) 02:27, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] M.E. Cutts
A tag has been placed on M.E. Cutts, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. If you plan to add more material to the article, I advise you to do so immediately. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}}
to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Yuser31415 00:41, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] LOC photographs
I noticed you are uploading Library of Congress images to Wikipedia.
- First of all, please consider uploading them to the Wikimedia Commons instead. Doing so makes the file immediately available to every Wikimedia Foundation project under the same file name and location, saving confusion and web space.
- Please use as descriptive a file name as possible and avoid using POV titles, such as "Image:Portriat of the Greatest Man in the World.jpg"; that is not appropriate (also, "portrait" is spelled incorrectly).
- The links you have been providing to the LOC website do not work. Use the link under "DIGITAL ID" near the bottom of a page description instead of what is in your web browser. For example, the link to John Nelson's image would be http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.pnp/cwpbh.02447 , not http://lcweb2.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?brhc:14:./temp/~pp_mbDv::@@@mdb=fsaall,app,brum,detr,swann,look,gottscho,pan,horyd,genthe,var,cai,cd,hh,yan,bbcards,lomax,ils,prok,brhc,nclc,matpc,iucpub,tgmi,lamb
- Try to upload the highest possible resolution file by downloading the .TIFF file and saving it as a .JPG.
Also, why did you deleted the changes I made to the succession box at John Nelson (lawyer) without comment?
Thanks. --tomf688 (talk - email) 16:23, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- I see you have gone ahead and, for whatever reason, reverted many of the changes I made to the John Nelson (lawyer) article. Despite my request, you still are not commenting on these changes so I have gone ahead and reverted many of them. It is extremely important, helpful, and a sign of cooperation and good faith with your fellow editors for you to provide edit summaries so we can understand what you are thinking when you make your changes. Otherwise, they will likely just be reverted. There is an option that you can enable to require yourself to enter edit summaries, which I strongly recommend enabling. Also, please do not replace identical Commons files with those uploaded locally to en:wiki; those files are supposed to be deleted anyways. --tomf688 (talk - email) 23:00, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Well that's understandable enough, but I wouldn't know that you felt that way. A lot of articles are starting to adopt this kind of formatting, though, so if you start removing them be sure to leave a note in the edit summary so your edits won't be interpretted negatively. --tomf688 (talk - email) 03:01, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] LOC photographs... again
You're still not providing accurate links to the LOC website when you are uploading these images. This makes it very difficult for these images to be verified as being usable on Wikipedia, and may result in their being deleted in the future. Also, it is not necessary to upload multiple versions of a file that are only slightly different (cropped border, for example); you can re-upload images over the old files. --tomf688 (talk - email) 03:22, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for providing accurate links. Now if I can only convince you to upload the images in maximum resolution and to the Wikimedia Commons... I'm sorry for being persistent, but if you are going to upload a lot of public domain images, you would do all Wikimedia projects a great service by uploading to the Commons instead of here! I will probably end up at some point going back and doing exactly that at some point in the future, which means deleting your versions here unfortunately. See Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion regarding images here and at the Commons. Don't get me wrong, scouring the Library of Congress website is something I've been doing for a long time and it is greatly beneficial to the project, but please upload them to the Commons now to save time for everyone later. Thanks. --tomf688 (talk - email) 18:16, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Clemens Markets Sign1.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. [edit] Jabez Leftwich
Is there any reason why you overwrote my Jabez Leftwich stub for a simple copy-and-paste from the CongBio? I worked awfully hard rewording the CongBio into a better encyclopedic style and format. What you pasted included the exact same facts as mine in a much poorer style, and in fact contained typos and cut out several useful wikilinks. If you want to improve the article (I do appreciate you adding the succession boxes), please add to it rather than subtract. If you have facts to add, add facts. If you disagree with the style or wording, feel free to edit the style or wording. Please work with me. Slashing and burning is not helpful. —LonelyPilgrim 04:46, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
You killed my stub again. You didn't even reply to my comment. What is going on here? Please, let's work together on this. —LonelyPilgrim 05:10, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
I appreciate you not reverting my stub again, but I really wish you would reply to my comments. At the very least, please give summaries for your edits that offer some clue as to why you're doing the things you're doing. Re your edit today, there's absolutely no reason to remove the Bioguide template. This is what the thing is meant for: to tag articles that use the Bioguide as a source. It's an extremely useful source, but not guaranteed to be the most reliable, and if there are any additional sources for this guy, it needs to be known that what's in the article comes from the Bioguide. Removing the template is not useful. If you have a good reason for doing it, please explain. This is a community project. You're not showing much of a community spirit, or really any communication at all. —LonelyPilgrim 16:34, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for replying. In response to your comment, the CongBio citation is most certainly a reference and belongs in the "References" section; it is the sole reference. It is not, per the guidelines in WP:EL, an external link (see specifically WP:EL#References_and_citation). (Technically, though it is an external link, it is used as a reference. It would only be used in the "External links" section if it weren't used as a reference.) Re the Bioguide template, please read the guidelines at WikiProject U.S. Congress/Bioguide. The CongBio template is be used in the "References" or "External links" section to link directly to the subject's CongBio. The Bioguide is not meant to replace the other; it is a content notice to flag the fact the article "incorporates facts obtained from" the CongBio. It should only be removed if and when we find other sources that supersede all facts we've obtained from the CongBio. It is helpful to readers to include both templates. Also, please provide edit summaries when you're editing articles, and sign your comments. It makes this thing work better for everyone. Thanks. —LonelyPilgrim 19:06, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deleting cited reference to homosexuality in articles on U.S. presidents
MysteryMan, re your comment on User:Kscottbailey's blanking out the section on James Buchanan's sexuality:
" would like to applaude you for adding the deletion notice on the page Sexuality of James Buchanan and I would like to let you know I too put one on Sexuality of Abraham Lincoln. Both of these pages are disgusting displays of lies toward great people, especially Lincoln who, in my opinion, is the greatest American ever to live. I support the deletion of the pages which hold nothing but pure lies and dribble. -User:The Mystery Man"
These are only disgusting if you find homosexuality disgusting. And they are presented with the requisite acknowledgment that we can never know for certain. While wikipedia is no place for unfounded rumors, it is also not a place for priggishness. There is citable, academicly supported evidence suggesting both men engaged in homoerotic behavior. There's likely a reason the press called him "Aunt Fancy," and why an older man of wealth shared his home with another never married man for the rest of his days. In Buchanan's case the evidence is strong enough that C-SPAN's special on Buchanan included it. And in it Brian Lamm, C-SPAN founder, discussed the subject in a forum of presidential historians. Bona fide heterosexual historians, Michael Beschloss for one, have found evidence that Buchanan was homosexual. Most often pronouncements of of a subject being "disgusting" says far more about the person making that declaration than the subject. Reverting, blanking, or attempting to undo edits usualy ends in an opposite effect of what was desired. Why not edit rather than blank out an entire section? Cite your sources and join the conversation. CApitol3 18:22, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Please Use Edit Summaries
Mr.Z-mantalk¢Review! 22:13, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
- I came here to ask the same thing. Another editor just reverted one of your edits thinking it was "random". Giving edit summaries to explain your edits really helps other editors and cuts down on mistakes. Thanks, -Will Beback · †· 23:50, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:Calhoun monument.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Calhoun monument.jpg.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] John Tyler image in info box
Hi Mystery man, I invited you to please discuss your concerns on the John Tyler discussion page. this need not be an adversarial situation. I am guessing you have some pride of authroship or something with the picture you prefer. I've uploaded a very high resolution image of a copperplate engraving I have that is identical to one in the collection of the Boston Athenaeum. Please note that file size alone is not the end-alll criteria for image quality. The contrast and depth of this engraving is very good. I wonder if it may be the cropping or relationship of figure/field you do not like? Please also remember to include an edit summary, this provides a part of your reasoning to another editor that otherwise would not be known. Thanks. CApitol3 20:20, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Better source request for Image:JGuthrie.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:JGuthrie.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talkpage. Thank you. MECU≈talk 19:34, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Template:PD-LOC
Please do not use this template for tagging images, since it has been deprecated and should not be used. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/All for other tags. Thanks. --Tom (talk - email) 22:12, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:DCheneySig.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:DCheneySig.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Image:Graham Crackers.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Graham Crackers.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Tom (talk - email) 22:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Editing
I noticed that you've made quite a lot of edits to some pages in a short span of time, particularly to the Millard Fillmore article. Please consider using the preview function to see your work in progress and make a series of edits in one posting. --Tysto 02:19, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Second request regarding PD-LOC template
Not all images from the Library of Congress are PD. I am going to ask you again to stop using this template, since it is not appropriate to tag new images with. Please use a correct PD tag instead, such as PD-old or PD-expired. If you do not alter your habits, your images will be deleted as lacking copyright information. --Tom (talk - email) 03:17, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
This media is tagged using the deprecated {{PD-LOC}} template. PD-LOC identifies the work as being sourced from the US Library of Congress. The fact that a work came from the US Library of congress is not an indication that it is public domain. Please check the copyright status of this work and replace this tag with {{LOC-image|id=abcde.12345}} plus an appropriate copyright tag. If the copyright status of this work can not be confirmed as free this media should be listed for deletion. |
