To Write Love on Her Arms
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
To Write Love on Her Arms (or TWLOHA) is a non-profit organization based originally in Orlando, Florida whose purpose is to spread awareness and support for people suffering from self-harm. The organization was founded by Jamie Tworkowski, and currently resides in NYC.
To Write Love on Her Arms operates under the umbrella of Fireproof Ministries, which also promotes starvingjesus.com and xxxchurch.
TWLOHA is a safe-haven for people who are enveloped in self-degradation, and self-loathing. This organization shows that there is many other alternatives to causing harm to ones self. The organization's main vehicle for achieving widespread recognition is the exposure it has received from musicians and bands such as Underoath, Anberlin, Switchfoot, Showbread, Copeland, Sleeping at Last, Thrice, Dustin Kensrue, The Myriad, Chad Stone, Derek Webb, Fireflight, Panic! At the Disco, Band Marino, Vedera, Memoranda, Sullivan, Mark Daniel, Between the Trees, The Rocket Summer, Plain White T's, Jimmy Eat World, Bayside, Meg and Dia, Jonezetta, Cool Hand Luke, Gasoline Heart, Mike Dunn & The Kings of New England, Jason Choi and the Sea, The Human Flight Committee, Bradley Hathaway, and Paramore, some of whom have been known to wear the organization's distinctive t-shirt in photographs and performances.
To Write Love on Her Arms was started in response to a story told by the founder about a young woman named Renee who had thrown her life away. The story explained how a group of people picked her up off the street and brought her onto the road of recovery. Since then, TWLOHA has helped many people through donations, inspiring stories, and by just being there to show that people can love you for who you are.
"Love is the Movement" and "Rescue is Possible" are the organization's two most widely used slogans.
[edit] Current Projects
TWLOHA is currently selling shirts and hats with various slogans in order to spread the cause and get money for donations. They are also touring with Anberlin on the band's headlining tour and giving a speech to the crowd each and every night before Anberlin takes the stage.
TWLOHA is also working on starting a street team to spread the word about various anti-depression and anti-suicide programs.
