Trix Rabbit
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Trix Rabbit is a cartoon mascot for General Mills' Trix (cereal), and appears on the packaging design, advertising, and other marketing materials for this breakfast cereal.
Television advertisement for Trix cereal featured an anthropomorphized rabbit, drawn in a cartoon style, who did not like the traditional rabbit diet. He said, in his black and white debut in 1961, "I'm a rabbit, and rabbits are supposed to like carrots. But I hate carrots. I like Trix!" The Trix Rabbit's love for the "raspberry red, lemon yellow, orange orange" taste of Trix cereal compelled him to dress in disguises of all sorts in an attempt to obtain Trix cereal from children. Unfortunately, every attempt ended with the same reply: "Silly Rabbit, Trix are for Kids!"
During the U.S. presidential election of 1976, General Mills launched a campaign to find out if the Rabbit should finally get some Trix. Children wrote letters to General Mills and voted 99% in favor of allowing the Rabbit to eat a bowl of cereal. In an advertisement released after the voting had ended, the Rabbit was awarded an entire bowl of Trix. However, when he asked for more, the children told him to "wait till the next election." This particular advertising campaign was created by the agency Dancer, Fitzgerald & Sample; Russell Horton provided the voice of the Trix Rabbit.
