Villard Noir
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Villard Noir is a red wine hybrid grape that is grown primarily in southwestern France with some plantings in Bordeaux. A cross between the hybrid Seibel grapes-Chancellor and Seibel 6905, the vine is normally grafted onto Berlandieri rootstock. Although susceptible to botrytis and powdery mildew, the vine is virtually immune to downy mildew. It is commonly used as a blending grape for table wine or in the production of distilled beverages [1]
Due to the overall poor quality of the wine produced by this grape, new plantings have been forbidden by French Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée laws since 1977. [1]
Villard Blanc is a white wine grape clone that is not widely planted.
