From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Former head football coach at Fairhope High School in Alabama.
The city's football stadium is named in honor of the late Majors, who coached from the mid 1960's through the early 1980's. He took a few years off during his career to care for his ailing father. In his absence, defensive coordinator Perry Lowrey served as interim head coach. Upon returning, Majors promptly earned honors as Alabama Coach of the Year in 1972.
Majors led the Fairhope Pirates to several title seasons. As head coach at Fairhope, Majors compiled a 110-30-1 (.781) record. His teams appeared in 10 playoff games in 13 years. Previously, he was head coach at Excel and Frisco City, posting a 43-16-2 (.705) record. He had a 153-46-3 (.757) lifetime record.
While at Excel and Frisco City he also coached basketball. During a nine-year stretch, his teams compiled a 151-41 (.786) overall record.
He served on the Alabama High School Athletic Association committee which set up the first state football playoff system.
Majors graduated from Frisco City High School and Auburn University. In 1994, he was inducted into the Alabama High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
