Welcome to the Image Monitoring Group WikiProject, a collaboration area and group of editors dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Image Monitoring and other image related problems.
(For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject and the Guide to WikiProjects).
- Goals
- Provide solutions to problems covering images.
- Eliminate the large orphaned image problem on Wikipedia (over 100,000 images as of 2/1/2007, and growing at >200/day!).
- See User:Mecu/OrphanImages for tracking of this problem.
- Create, maintain, and monitor templates that are useful for processing images by folks.
- Develop bots to process to the work that becomes redundant and more efficiently.
- User:BJBot is an example, that marks orphaned fair use images. (It did 10,000 images in 4 days, which would take a human much longer (months) since it was able to target suspected known orphaned fair use images.)
- BJBot is likely to also check for images marked with the IFD tag ({{ifd}}) but never listed at IFD, and images that went through IFD but didn't have the tag removed from the image by admins processing the images.
- Another bot to move images to commons that have been approved.
- Another bot to remove fair use images used outside article namespace.
- High priority!
- Another bot to look at newly uploaded images.
- Orphan bot is another example. (it creates orphans by removing images that are poorly/not sourced or licensed from articles)
- User:BJBot is an example, that marks orphaned fair use images. (It did 10,000 images in 4 days, which would take a human much longer (months) since it was able to target suspected known orphaned fair use images.)
- Update and create image policies on Wikipedia.
- Current proposal to clarify that fair use images should be 300px wide max and 72x72 px/inch as a standard.
- Create/support scripts to ease image work (such as QuickImgDelete)
- A script add-on for IFD admins to allow them to click "keep" on an image when processing images which would open a browser tab and remove the IFD tag from the image description page.
- Scope
- All images on Wikipedia.
