[edit] Slogan/Tagline

  • Long ago, the world was saved by the Woo-Foo Warriors. Today only three are left: Yin, Yang, Yo! Together fighting evil, and driving each other nuts!
  • The show's slogan is Giving evil a wedgie!
  • Squashing evil one hop at a time!(Jetix UK)

[edit] Origin

Bob Boyle, the show's creator, quoted in an online interview, “That idea came from a trip my wife and I made to Little Tokyo [in Los Angeles]. I saw a little girl wearing a shirt that said ‘Samurai in Training.’ I thought that’s cute, and then that a tiny samurai would be funny, and then went to ‘what is the cutest’ animal and thought of a fluffy little bunny and it took off from there. Always hearing from folks in pitches that an idea didn’t have enough boy appeal, or enough girl appeal, I thought why not do both. Have equal characters, or equal importance, boy and girl. Then give them that sibling rivalry.” Yo was added a bit later on. Thus, Yin Yang Yo! was born.

[edit] Plot

This show is about two rabbit siblings named Yin and Yang that train under Master Yo, a grumpy old panda. They learn the scacred art of Woo Foo, a special type of martial arts that invovles might and magic. They must work together save the world from evil villians and forces that want to destory, corrupt, or take it over. They gain allies and enemies along the way. Among the villians they face are the crazy Ultimoose, pro-female rights activist Saranoia, and Carl, the evil cockroach wizard.

[edit] Characters

On the left is Yin, On the middle is Master Yo and on the right is Yang.
On the left is Yin, On the middle is Master Yo and on the right is Yang.

[edit] Main Characters

  • Yin:(voiced by Stephanie Morgenstern) Yin is a pink, female rabbit that is the younger sister of Yang (although she does act like she's older). Yin is intelligent, sassy, and stubborn. Yin is hoping to save the world and likes getting back at her brother. Yin is learning the magical side of Woo Foo & knows many attacks, such as Yin-Cinerate, Yin Ferno, Trans-Foo-Mate, and Foo Field. She can also use the Pretty Pink Paws of Pain (her version of the paws of power) and other verisons of her brother's moves. She is a fan of two-ni-corns. Her best friend is Lina, and she attemps to keep her brother and friend from dating. As of Woofoogeddon, she is in love with Coop and is a Level One Woo Foo Knight.
  • Yang:(voiced by Scott McCord) Yang is a blue, male rabbit that is the older brother of Yin. He is into video games, motorcycles, and other boyish things. Yang is quite naive and is bad at mathematics. Yang is, like his sister, hoping to save the world and become a hero. Yang learns the might side of Woo Foo & he can use attacks such as, Foo-Nado, Fists of Fire, Paws of Pain, and Power Punch. He uses a Bamboo Sword, with can become a boomarang (Yang-a-Rang), a staff (Bamboo Staff), and a pair of numchucks (Foo Chucks). He can also use Yang-Cinerate (his version of Yin-Cinerate) and other verisons of his sister's moves. He also has a battle cry: "Chee! Hoo! Waa!" He's really more intelligent than he makes out to be so he can get away with more.He is also a Level One Woo Foo Knight.
  • Yo:(voiced by Martin Roach) Yo is a grumpy old panda whose age is unknown (but he could be around 100 or so). Yo has great sage wisdom and is a master in the Woo Foo arts. Master Yo mentors Yin and Yang in the Woo Foo way to save the world, but it wasn't his choice. A bunch of sprits stopped him from watching a movie until he decided to do it. He's able to use both might and magic and has moves that Yin and Yang have no clue about. He once was able to defeat the ultimate in evil, the one and only Nightmaster. He is the last panda in the entire world.

[edit] Villains

  • Carl the Evil Cockroach Wizard:(voiced by Jamie Watson) Carl, a main villain and malevolent cockroach wizard, continuously schemes to defeat Yin, Yang and the power of the Woo Foo with his insecure genius. Of course, he always fails. He also lives with his mother. Carl is always trying to find a way to impress his mother and out do his brother Herman. Despite the fact that Carl and Herman loath one-another they have worked together on occasion making a deadly force against Yin and Yang. Carl is also stronger than he seems, in Woofoogeddon he is able to take out a whole unit of the Night Master's minions, as Yang said "We get him angry, it throws him off." Yang also seemed to know of Carl's strength, even though Yin didn't. He dream is to become so enormous he would blot out the sun, which Herman and The Night Master stole, but he worked through that.
  • Chung Pow Kitties:(voiced by Stephanie Morgenstern) At first glance, the Chung Pow Kitties (CPK) seem like three endearing white kittens with pink, blue, and green dresses, but in reality, they are ruthless ninjas with ultra-sharp weapons (with the exception of the green-clad cat's nunchukus) and allegiance to no one. However, once they see a ball of yarn or a dish of cat food - even in battle - they instantly revert to adorable balls of fur. They are also world famous as rock stars and stage actors, even though all they say is "meow." Yang was once their biggest fan, but the CPK betrayed him and they have been bitter rivals ever since.
  • Edna: Edna is Carl and Herman's 'Mother'. Unlike her sons, she is a dragon rather than an ant or cockroach. A vile creature, Edna apparently despises Carl but dotes on Herman.
  • Fastidious: A small hamster with a cultured British accent, obsessed with cleanliness and world domination. Most likely to be a neat freak.
  • Herman: Carl's blackhearted evil brother and an ant, Herman, is a tyrannical warrior who rules his kingdom with an iron fist, a diabolical mind, and impeccable table manners. He attempted to take over the world until Master Yo stopped him. Since Herman is allergic to pandas, he can't take over the world as long as Master Yo is around and has a master's degree in pain. Despite the fact that Carl and Herman hate each others guts they have worked together on occasion making a deadly force against Yin, Yang and Master Yo.
  • Kraggler:(voiced by Tony Daniels) About a "bazillion" years old, Kraggler used to be a great and powerful warrior--and Master Yo's archenemy. Reduced to a feeble but no less deadly old man, Kraggler used his youth draining powers to restore his youth and still maintains a constant threat to Yin and Yang, even Master Yo.
  • Night Master:(voiced by David Hemblen) Billed as a "Dark Overlord In An Evil Class All By Himself", the Night Master is a very powerful and dangerous foe who was responsible for the near extinction of Woo Foo by banishing all of the Woo Foo knights except for Master Yo. The Sensei managed to turn Night Master's army to stone and sent him into hiding for a hundred years until he tricked Yin and Yang into using Woo Foo in order to free his army. The Night Master appears to be a demonic sorcerer of some description and has a liking for gothicly ostentatious outfits. He frequently communicates with his lackies by using a hologram. He was destroyed in the season one finale, but it is most likely he might come back.
  • Pondscüm:(His name is pronounced "Pondscy-oum")A Slang-talking fish inside a robot suit. He is obsessed with "bling-bling", and will get it at all costs. He is usually accompanied by his female henchmen, the "Blixens". Pond-scüm practicly puts the "--oo-- in cool"! He's a totally gold, cool, fancy fish who wants to create an army of ultra Blixen warriors with "bling-bling".
  • Roger the Skelewog: Roger the Skelewog is a vicious warrior from 9 to 5. Being a scary monster is just his job. When a whistle blows, he goes home to his equally fearsome wife, children and life in the suburbs.
  • Saranoia:(voiced by Linda Ballantyne) With a magic wand for every occasion (and outfit), Saranoia is a powerful sorceress and mistress of disguise. Deeply sexist and obsessed with female rights and is determined to free Yin from studying Woo-Foo. She had a terrible childhood and always thinks men are like her lazy brother Mark, which she keeps calling Yang. When Saranoia takes one of her wands, she takes on a set of characteristics and must abide by the wand, even if its against her will (One wand, known as the Broom Wand, turned her into a maid that was forced to clean any mess she saw). Saranoia also has a gnome sidekick who makes comments about her sanity. When Saranoia uses one of her wands, the gnome immediately turns him into a creature fitting for that wand (Ice: A penguin. Pirate: A parrot. Maid: A little fluffy poodle. Popular girl: A girl (Just him in a skirt)). Unlike the other villains on the show, Saranoia is not pure evil. She actually believes that what she does is good however the website declares her to be insane.
  • The Lie Fairy: A fairy like the Tooth Fairy, but, as Yang puts it, just not as cool. Appears whenever someone Lies excessively. Like when Yin and Yang lied about Zarnot. She brought Zarnot to Life to teach them a lesson. Was last seen at the dojo, saying what Yang wrote on his blog was a lie. She has a power called 'Lie Fairy Fists', which is so weak, it might take you a while to figure out your're being hit.
  • The Lesson: The Lesson was once a great hero who stopped the two bad habits. When the two bad habits got loose again, The Lesson came to stop them, but the two bad habits explained to him that they had done nothing, and that people were just being lazy on their own. The Lesson then tried to rid people of their bad habits, but when they ignored him he tried to pound the lesson into them. He is not evil, he just wants to get people get rid of their bad habits. His powers include flight and the ability to turn his hands into hammers. He is currently trapped in a video game.
  • Ultimoose:(voiced by Tony Daniels) Ultimoose is the ultimate Night Master lackey: tough as nails, a master at Moose fighting, and really, really dumb, despite his shortness and has strong antlers. He seems to offer work under the Night Master but is merely a dim-witted pawn. He employs the use of his battle cry ("HOO! HAH! HOO!") usually followed by his antlers shooting out flame in the shape of his name and is soon defeated by Master Yo and fails to work for the Night Master. Also as an insult, he likes to call people little girls or ladies.
  • Yuck:(voiced by Scott McCord) A disgusting by-product of Woo Foo gone awry, Yuck (who happens to be a green rabbit with terrible hygiene) is an obnoxious combo of Yin's obsession with control and Yang's off the hook aggression. As a grotesque, mutant rabbit Yuck wants more than anything in the world to be the greatest, most powerful Woo Foo knight of all time. After he lost his physical form, he was found by the Night Master who built him a robot suit with hands that absorb Woo Foo so he could become real. He dated Yin and eventually absorbed enough energy to regain his physical form, becoming his own individual being. The rabbit duo defeated him but it's most likely he'll be back. Yuck has shown himself to be quite intelligent in his convoluted schemes to Yin and Yang and possesses great physical strength. In terms of fighting ability he appears to be as formidable as Ying and Yang put together, being able to take on Master Yo himself. After a mission into master yo to get an ancient woo foo weapn, Yin and Yang break his shrink belt and he shrinks uncontrollably to the point where he is no longer visible, he'll probably be back yet again.
  • Zarnot:(voiced by Jamie Watson) Once Yang's favorite toy, Zarnot is an evil action figure brought to life by the Lie Fairy (Yang stopped playing with him when he turned 11). Once Zarnot hides inside a doll that loves Yin but despises Yang.

  • Roger Jr.:

[edit] Characters Yet To Be Seen

  • Ching and Chang: Ching and Chang are twin baby rabbits and younger siblings of Yin and Yang. Master Yo finds them too young for Woo Foo, but they're actually pretty good. When Yin and Yang are or anyone else is around (expect Master Yo), they fight. Ching is purple and Chang is red. Once when Carl was going to hurt them, Ching and Chang activate cute mode. Then when Carl was distracted Ching used her flexibilty. Then Chang attacked him! They are likey to appear in Season 2.
  • Krumelia: A cute vampire bat with a rabbit body who works for Carl. In a future episode she says She likes Yang. She first appeared in the Yin Yang Yo! game Carl the Evil Cockroach Wizard. It's revealed she never gets paid. She completely is likey to be seen in Season 2.
  • Ommiliza: Ommiliza is a girl who left for the dojo, leaving her 74,999 year old mother and 80,000 year old father behind. Her grandfather is Kraggler and she is also likey to appear in Season 2.

[edit] Trivia

  • Characters of this show are similar to characters from Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi - Ami, Yumi, and Kaz.
  • There was an ad for it in Nick Magazine that included a short "comic book" that introduces it. Also, part of Return of the Night Master has "scenes" from the comic.
  • The episode, "Dojo Alone", is an obvious parody of the movie Home Alone. The beginning of the episode that shows its name even parodies the boxart of Home Alone.
  • Also in "Dojo Alone", there is a scene in which Carl and Herman are dressed as plumbers (even though they went through the window), parodying the Mario Bros. With Carl being Luigi, and Herman dressed as Mario.
  • A soon to be released video game for this show comes out in Late 2007.
  • In the episode "Aura or not" Yang consistently calls the move 'Paws of Pain' and Yin always corrects him. But despite its name actually being 'Paws of Power,' Yo calls it 'Paws of Pain.'
  • The part in the theme song that says "Today only three are left" was originally "Today only two are left," but this was later changed to "Three are left" because of Master Yo.
  • Series creator Bob Boyle formerly worked on "The Fairly Oddparents", first as Art Director and later as Producer (Elmer's mind-controlling boil is, not coincidentally, named "Bob"), so the similarities between the earlier show and "Yin Yang Yo!" seem natural. Likewise, composer Guy Moon, who with Boyle wrote the theme song for "Yin Yang Yo!", also wrote much of the music for "The Fairly Oddparents".
  • A mix of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the Koopas from Mario games made a cameo appearance in the episode "Return of the Night Master". They are purple, skilled in martial arts, like the TMNT,and they strike a resemblence to the koopas. What actually gives off the koopa part is that in the background it says "Tortises from the 80s",refering to the fact that Mario games were originated in the 80s.
  • Yin Yang Yo! was going to air on Disney Channel March 19, 2007 but apperently it didn't.
  • In "Imagination Situation", there is a blooper at the end--Yin's eyelashes dissapear and appear on Yang's eyes.
  • Half of the season one episodes were not shown in order.

[edit] Future of Yin Yang Yo!

The show is being picked up for a second season of 26 episodes. The creator, Bob Boyle, plans to widen to the story arcs, dig more into the characters' pasts, and add new villians in this new season. He is also considering about creating a sequel series, with more action and more serious.
