[edit] 2006 - another Estonian title, but also a successful European campaign
FC Levadia started the season with big expectations after many top-level signings in Estonian football terms. They had gone out of the cup in the early rounds the year before (the Estonian Cup starts at the end of season and concludes in May), so the first real test was in Europe, when they locked horns with FC Haka. They were equal opponents for each other and Levadia just narrowly scraped through to the next round where FC Twente was a much tougher nut to crack. Levadia caused a huge upset and beat the Dutch club 2:1 on aggregate and with that was the first Estonian club to advance to the third round of a European competition. After a 1:1 away draw, Konstantin Nahk scored a magnificent free-kick at the A. Le Coq Arena which Levadia used from then on in Europe to give the Estonian club a shock 1:0 victory. They were drawn against Newcastle United in the first round proper and the English club had real trouble breaking down a stubborn Levadia defence. After going down 0:1 at home through an Antoine Sibierski goal in Tallinn, Levadia lost 1:2 at St. James' Park with ex-international Indrek Zelinski the goalscorer. The Meistriliiga campaign was won without too much trouble as a gap with the rest of the clubs was more and more obvious. Artur Kotenko again made impressive displays in Levadia's goal in their European bid, defensive line Tihhon Shishov, Marek Lemsalu, Vitoldas Cepauskas and Andrei Kalimullin was solid throughout the season, Aleksandr Dmitrijev made a great season in which he broke into the national team starting line-up, Konstantin Nahk and Konstantin Vassiljev added attacking spark to the side, forward Ats Purje made perhaps his best season ever and made his debut in the Estonia national football team, while Russian youngster Nikita Andreev was perhaps the starlet in the team and received much interest from top-tier Russian clubs. Veteran striker Indrek Zelinski scored some decisive and important goals and helped his team a lot, while more was hoped from Tarmo Kink who joined the team with much hype in the media, and also from summer-signing Vladimir Voskoboinikov, both of whom were out of form throughout the season.
