Finding Judas is the ninth episode of the third season of House and the fifty-fifth episode overall.

[edit] Plot Overview
8-year-old Alyssa Shafer guest stars as a young girl named Alice, who is suffering from what appears to be pancreatitis. During the course of the episode her guardianship is taken from her divorced parents, and awarded to Cuddy. Christopher Gartin and Paula Cale also guest-star.
Throughout the episode Detective Tritter takes strikingly different tones in new interviews with each of House's staff, and offers one of them a deal.[1]
A subplot of this episode has Tritter trying to frame Chase and make it look like he's betrayed House. House is aggravated with withdrawal from Vicodin caused by Cuddy's watchful administration of his doses. He treats Cuddy, Chase, and the rest of his team without respect, and shows little care for Alice, instead rambling about his lack of Vicodin. Chase, Cameron, and Foreman continue to discuss possible diagnoses. When Chase shines a red light laser pen at Foreman, and the latter complains he doesn't want his retinas burnt with the pen, Chase figures out what Alice is really suffering from. Chase runs to House to explain the diagnosis – erythropoietic protoporphyria – Alice is allergic to light. House rejects the explanation. When Chase tries to stop him, House punches him in the face. Chase, now on the ground, continues to give his reasoning for his diagnosis. House realizes that Chase is right, and calls the OR to stop the surgery. Chase later has a conversation with Wilson, who is working clinic duty at the hospital now that he has shut down his practice. Chase tells Wilson that he can't stand the situation anymore, and that he is going to do something about it. Wilson then goes to Tritter to voice his agreement to testify against House, along with a cynical quote describing his betrayal.

Tritter hopes he can exploit Chase's sycophant reputation and force him into rolling on House; if everyone already believes him the most likely candidate, even wonders whether or not he's already betrayed House, he can't lose much more actually doing it.

Tritter gives Cuddy perfectly valid, boilerplate reasons for going after House, yet admits the way he pushes on everyone around House in hopes they'll pressure him in turn is how he "gets what he wants". Once more this shows the dark side of Tritter which parallels the dark sides of House. He lets personal vendettas get into his work, even though his work and his reasoning behind it stand on their own. In essence, Tritter's professional behavior stems from the right *and* the wrong reasons simultaneously, much like House.

- When House says, "It's never lupus," he's poking fun at the fact that during the second season his first diagnosis was usually lupus. Also, on the Season 2 DVD, there was a bonus feature called "It Could Be Lupus", where it showed the many diagnoses of lupus, without it ever actually being lupus. In addition, one of the first diagnoses offered during the differential diagnosis is usually lupus, usually quickly discredited.
- Early in the episode House uses a laser pointer to disrupt Cuddy's meeting; in an earlier episode this season House remarks that he needs a laser pointer and when told that the team does not have one he remarks "Who's going to take us seriously if we don't have a laser pointer?"

- The episode's name is a reference to Judas Iscariot, the betrayer of Jesus. During the very last scene of the episode, Wilson comes into Tritter's makeshift office and says "I'm going to need thirty pieces of silver," an indication of his decision to testify against House. Judas was offered thirty pieces of silver for his betrayal of Jesus.
- Wilson's remark, "Beckett was going to call his play Waiting for House's Approval, but decided it was too grim" is a reference to writer Samuel Beckett's absurdist play Waiting for Godot, in which two men wait for a man named Godot, who ultimately fails to show up.

- This is one of very few episodes where House does not make the final, correct diagnosis. However, if House has been given his usual dosage of Vicodin, it is questionable if Chase would have made the correct diagnosis before House.
