Finn Andrews (born in Brixton, London in 1983) is the lead singer/songwriter of London based band The Veils. His father, Barry Andrews was a member of XTC & Shriekback.
Finn moved to New Zealand at age 11. It was here he met current Veils members Sophia Burn and Liam Gerrard while studying at Takapuna Grammar School.
He first started playing music at the Devonport Folk Club and quickly began making a name for himself in the New Zealand folk scene. Rikki Morris, a local Devonport musician, gave Finn a week's free time at his studio to record a set of demos. These quickly began circulating, ending up in the hands of Columbia Records in the UK six months later. Finn, now 15, received a letter asking him to come to London and meet with representatives of the record company, who wanted to offer him an on the spot 5 album deal. Finn declined believing he was not yet ready, and continued his weekly performances at the Folk Club and attending high school classes. A few months later Finn received letters from a further three record companies requesting to meet with him - and Finn now 16 and growing tired of high school, finally decided to make the move to London. Offers came, again from Columbia Records, but also from Warner Brothers, Virgin and EMI.
He was signed by Rough Trade Records in 2002 and released The Veils' first record The Runaway Found in February 2004. Two months after the records release Finn announced the departure of the rest of the band and that he would be returning to New Zealand to write a new record. It was there he met up once again with Sophia Burn and Liam Gerrard and began rehearsing a new set of songs.
The three returned to London in March 2005 and are currently recording in Los Angeles with producer Nick Launay.
