Quest for Fire: Firestarter, Vol. 1 is the second album by Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall. The album helped solidify Kardinal's importance to Canadian hip hop, and made him a household name in Toronto, and Canada's fast-growing urban music scene. Kardinal was one of very few Canadian MCs to be signed to a major American record label (MCA), and he also made an impact in the U.S., particularly in New York City, because of his reggae and dancehall influenced style of rap. Kardinal's success eventually earned the album gold certification in Canada.
The first single on the album, "Husslin'", was actually released more than a year before Quest for Fire was released. The track is usually well-received by hip-hop fans alike, and it earnt Kardinal a SOCAN award.
"Money Jane" is a remix which features Jully Black and Sean Paul, and this is significant because it was released before Sean Paul achieved his worldwide fame and success. "Powerfulll" is another single which featured Jully Black and it has an R&B-type vibe.
"BaKardi Slang" was a huge hit for Kardinal, and instantly gave him a larger audience, especially in the U.S. The song was also big in Jamaica, which prompted Bounty Killer to do a remix of the track with Kardinal.
"Ol' Time Killin'", like "BaKardi Slang", got heavy video play on MuchMusic and even BET. Fans of reggae/dancehall music and fans of hip-hop equally praised the single and Kardinal ended up doing another remix, but this time with Busta Rhymes.
