Florida News
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Florida News is a partisan Democratic weblog focusing on Florida political news and contains commentary.
Florida News gained media attention from the St. Petersburg Times and the Weekly Planet when, in December 2004, it broke a story that the Florida Democratic Party registered the domain name ScottMaddox2006.com, raising conflict of interest questions. Scott Maddox was, at the time, the Chair of the Florida Democratic Party and was considering a run for Governor. The Florida Democratic Party had not registered the domain names of any other gubernatorial candidates. Weekly Planet writer Wayne Garcia called it "the first major instance of Florida political blog news forcing its way into the mainstream news mechanism" and said it was "a breakthrough for Florida poli-blogging."
Florida News also gained attention from the St. Petersburg Times columnist Adam Smith for noting, according to the article, "that Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Gallagher back in 1994 aired a campaign ad implying Jeb Bush helped Fidel Castro by backing a free-trade agreement."
