Four Heatons
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Four Heatons (pop.70,000) are four affluent suburbs to the North-West of Stockport and borders the city of Manchester. The four areas are Heaton Moor, Heaton Norris, Heaton Mersey and Heaton Chapel.
There was once five Heatons, the fifth being Heaton Reddish and was so called until the early to mid nineteenth century when it dropped its Heaton prefix and became just Reddish.
All of the Heatons (including Heaton Reddish) were originally a subset of Heaton Norris, the then ecclesiastical centre of the area.
Due to its suburban affluence, the area is very popular with commuters and young professionals, resulting in a large rise in house prices. The area has numerous parks, shops and amenties. Café culture has become notable in the area with the opening of numerous bistros. This is following the trend of other up and coming localities such as East Didsbury.
Famous people who live in the area include Caroline Aherne, John Thomson, Jason Cowan (Big Brother 5), Gary Mounfield (Primal Scream) and Dominic Monaghan (The Lord of the Rings, Lost) Mark Mills (Professional Pool Player).
