Frank K. Allan

The Right Reverend Frank Kellogg Allan was the 8th bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, being consecrated as Bishop Coadjutor on February 7, 1987, and later as Diocesan Bishop on January 1, 1989.

Bishop Allan born in Hammond, Indiana on May 9, 1935. He attended Emory University, graduating in 1956 with his bachelor's. In 1959 he received his Master of Divinity from the University of the South.
He was ordained as Deacon and later as Priest by Bishop Claiborne in 1959. He served in St. Marks, Dalton, GA for eight years. In 1967, Allan became rector at St. Paul's in Macon, GA where he served until 1977. From St. Paul's, Allan went to St. Anne's, Atlanta, GA.
In 1987, Bishop Child consecrated Allan as Bishop Suffragan for the Diocese of Atlanta. When Bishop Child retired, Bishop Allan was consecrated Diocesan Bishop (1989)
After retiring, Bishop Allan taught at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He also began a ministry for woodworking called The Work of Our Hands.
Bishop Allan is remembered for his supportive role with the ordination of women in the diocese.
