Galaxy North East is a regional radio station owned by the Chrysalis Group as part of its Galaxy Network of stations specialising in dance music and R'n'B. It is based in Wallsend, at the Silverlink Business Park, near the junction of the A1058 and the A19, near the Billy Mill roundabout.

[edit] Transmitters

The 105.3FM signal is the strongest and comes from the Burnhope transmitter near Lanchester in County Durham. The 105.6FM signal covers Newcastle-upon-Tyne and comes from the Fenham transmitter in the west of Newcastle. The 105.8FM signal is a much weaker signal and comes from the Newton transmitter near the A69 and covers the Hexham area. The 106.4FM signal is very powerful and covers the Teesside area, coming from the Bilsdale transmitter. DAB signals since August 2001 have come from the MXR North East 12C multiplex, with additional transmitters at Haining (near Houghton-le-Spring) and Shilbottle (near Alnwick). The station uses the exact same transmitters as 100-102 Century FM.

Although originally called Galaxy 105-106, the uncomfortable name was changed to Galaxy North East in 2006, in line with other Galaxy stations. This year also saw a change in demographic from 15-29 to 15-34 and a new strapline of "passion for music, passion for life".

Local programming is produced Monday - Friday 6am - 7pm, Saturday 9am - 3pm and Sunday 9am - 4pm. Programming outside of these hours is provided from Leeds as part of the Galaxy Network.
