Heart 106 is a regional radio station broadcasting to the East Midlands. Based in Nottingham city centre close to the Radio Nottingham building, it is owned by Chrysalis Group who acquired the station from Capital Radio Group/GCap Media on 5 May 2005 for a cash consideration of £29.5m.
It was launched as Radio 106, with the first programme presented by Dickie Dodd at 6:00 a.m.. A year later, John Myers took control over the station and it was rebranded by then owners Border Radio Holdings into Century.
The station was relaunched as Heart 106 on 29 August 2005. A further, more subtle rebrand was applied in September 2006 which saw the dropping of the frequencies from station names across the Heart network. This is to reflect the move into the digital age and as a result, the station is now referred to on-air simply as ‘Heart’.
It is transmitted from the Copt Oak transmitter close to the M1 north of Leicester in the National Forest.
The station has brought to an end the highly successful Legends Football Phone-In which it inherited from the Century regime. The final show was broadcast on Friday 7th July and was replaced with Time Tunnel Challenge from Monday 10th July.
[edit] Audience
According to RAJAR in the first three months of 2006 the station was listened to by 336,000 people (out of a possible 2,019,000) every week - 17% of all adults living in its coverage area. Each listener listened for an average of 9.3 hours every single week.
