Gennum (TSX: GND) is a Canadian manufacturer of semiconductors and semiconductor-based products. Founded in 1973 as Linear Technology Inc. by co-founders Douglas Barber and Wally Pieczonka, the company acquired the assets of Westinghouse Canada's Solid States Devices division.[2]
Originally focused on serving the hearing instrument industry, Gennum now develops and markets products in three segments:
- Video timing, transport/transmission, and image processing products for the video broadcast industry (e.g., HDTV).
- Prosumer wireless headsets (e.g. nXZEN™), and hearing instruments for the hearing impaired.
- Optical transceiver ICs and serial backplane interconnect ICs for data communications.
The company has wholly owned subsidiaries in Japan and the United Kingdom.
