Talk:Goshin Jutsu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Formed in Ancient Japan? Karate is an Okinawan form of self defense, not Japanese. Also, Jujutsu was strictly a samurai art, there is no way a simple peasant would know anything about this, let alone be proficient in it. Also, Judo and Aikido are modern arts (hence the "do") and, while linked to ancient Japanese arts, are not ancient. Judo was founded in the late 1800's by Jigoro Kano and Aikdio was founded in the mid 1900's by Morihei Ueshiba. How could these ancient Japanese peasants practice these things? Did they travel forward in time? I doubt it. Also, since Karate is native to Okinawa (not Japan) there is no reason for the system to traditionally include teachings from native Japanese martial arts.
I call bullshit on the whole article!
Goshin Jutsu is a non-traditional form of Pennsylvanian Karate, created by Grand Master Kyo Durant who uses the "ancient Japanese history" as a marketing gig.

[edit] Perhaps a more accurate lineage history
If it's anything to go by, here is an extract from a website: http://www.geocities.com/goshin_jutsu_uk/kris.htm
"I was never content with one Martial Art and would often be training in 2 or 3 different ones each week. After a while I had gained high belts in Kung Fu, Karate (Shotokan and Wado Ryu), Kempo, Ju Jitsu and other lower belts in Aikido, Kendo, Tae Kwon Do and Judo.
In 1982 I formulated a syllabus from the Arts I had practised and gained my first degree Black belt through the South of England Karate Union, under Mick Dewey and Mervyn O'Donnell.
The Art was then called Gong Yuen Pai Goshin Jutsu Karate Do, which was later refined to Gong Yuen Pai Goshin Jutsu and is now Internationally known as Goshin Jutsu. Along the way weapon Arts were added and 15 different weapons are now in the Black Belt syllabus.
A few years ago I was asked to create some fight scenes from a local film maker, for his 3rd film "The Witches Hammer" it was great fun and if you get a chance to see it look closely at the fight scenes. The film premiere was March 2006.
